Smile Squad

In the 2019 State Budget, the Victorian Government pledged to fund the Smile Squad program, providing free dental care to all students enrolled in government schools across Victoria.

Grampians Health has been confirmed as the provider for our school and will visit sometime in 2024.

Due to the delay in receiving Smile Squad services, we will be receiving another free delivery of Smile Squad dental packs for students so they can benefit from the Smile Squad program immediately and help to achieve and maintain good dental health.

These will be distributed to students once they are received.

Respectful Behaviours Within the School Community Policy

When parents, carers and school staff work together as one team, our students do better. Everyone at school, particularly staff and parents/carers, play a role in making school a better place for learning and work.

Parents, carers and school staff have a relationship that can last many years. This is an opportunity to work together to create a positive relationship in the best interests of the child. When this relationship is built on respect and trust, students learn better and feel like they belong in the school.

Every member of our school community has a right to feel safe and be protected.

The Department of Education and Training’s Respectful Behaviours within the School Community Policy  describes the positive behaviour expected from parents, carers, and other adults in Victorian school communities. The policy sets clear standards of behaviour to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment for students, staff and adults.

The expected standards of behaviours apply to different school settings. This includes at school events, camps, excursions, outdoor activities, online learning and other places online related to schools.

There are also resources to support safe and respectful relationships in our school community, including information about getting involved in the school, advice on how to raise a concern or complaint, and parenting support resources.

Staying Healthy and Well

We are continuing to see some viruses and illnesses around the school. We have also had some reported cases of Covid.

The Department of Educations current advice around managing Covid has changed greatly from what it has been in the past. There is no longer a requirement to report positive cases to the school, however you can do so if you wish.

The current advice states that:

It is recommended that staff members, students or visitors who have symptoms of cold, influenza or COVID-19 undergo testing for COVID-19.

Parents of symptomatic students should be asked to collect their child from school and keep them home until they are no longer symptomatic.

The Department of Health recommends that staff and students who test positive for COVID-19 isolate for a minimum of 5 days and do not attend school until their symptoms resolve.

We are continuing to take the important steps of ensuring air purifiers are in use, external ventilation is maximised, good personal hygiene is encouraged and face masks continue to be made available for staff, students and visitors who wish to wear them.

Students displaying symptoms of any illness should not attend school.

Should students become unwell during the school day parents will be asked to collect their child from school and to keep them home until they are no longer symptomatic.

Thanks to everyone for helping to keep our school community healthy.

Bunjil Student Awards

Congratulations to the following students who received a Bunjil Award at last week’s P-2  assembly.

Bunjil awards recognise student achievement and those who display our school values of being respectful, responsible and kind.

Well done! All of our weekly winners enjoy a hot chocolate with a principal.

ROCTOBER

ROCtober is designed to encourage, promote and recognise positive behaviour across the school and is linked to our School Wide Positive Behaviour (SWPB) model.

Teachers will be awarding raffle tickets throughout the month to students who are consistently demonstrating the school values and leading the way with behaviour. At the end of the month, two students from each class will be drawn out, and these students will be invited to attend the movies in mid November with the other students from across the school.

The more tickets each student receives, the more chances they will have.

Of course, the greatest reward is fostering a school environment where kindness, respect, and responsibility are at the forefront of our daily interactions. ROCtober serves as a fun and motivating way to reinforce these values and build a sense of unity within our school community.

We encourage all students to embrace this opportunity to shine and exemplify the qualities that make Buninyong  Primary School such a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Let's make ROCtober a month filled with positive actions and kind gestures, knowing that together, we can make a lasting impact on our school culture. Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive learning environment for our students.
