GD Tennis

On the 3rd of November, students from Years 7 to 10 participated in the GD Tennis competition. The competition was split into two, doubles and the singles.

The doubles tournament was held at Monivae and consisted of four teams, with Sophie Merrin (Year 10) and Su-Riann Kim (Year 10), Harry Dorahy (Year 10) and Lucas Thomson (Year 9) taking gold for College in their age groups. The singles tournament was held at the Hamilton Lawn Tennis Courts, and Amelie Shrive (Year 7) took out the Junior A Girls' title.

The display of talent and dedication from our students was inspiring. Next year, I am hopeful that we can regain our title—a special thank you to Miss Dixon for organising a spectacular day.

Netball

The sun shone Saturday morning as three College teams took to Pedrina Park for Round 5 of the HNA summer competition.

In the Year 7/8 competition, the College Magpies fought hard. Still, they went down to a strong Monivae team, 34-24, with outstanding performances from Elsie Brown and Naomi Lee contributing to the close margin. The College Vixens had a bye this week. However, they have been working hard at training to improve their skills and be ready for round 6.

There were mixed results in the Year 9-12 teams over the weekend. The College Swifts came together as a team and showed their strength all over the court; however, they went down to a well-drilled Monivae side 16-32. The College Diamonds, although slightly understaffed, came away with a 25-goal win over Monivae. Shoutout goes to Georgia Adams, who dominated in defence for the Diamonds, playing one of her best games for the season!

With only two rounds left in the Term 4 season, we encourage all players to make the most of the last College netball for the 2023 school year!

Rowing

Rowers from The Hamilton and Alexandra College converged on Dimboola last weekend for the 132nd Annual Dimboola Sprint Regatta. The contingent of rowers was among 200 athletes to compete in 71 events.

The Hamilton and Alexandra College (THAC) campaign opened with young sculler Olivia Rees debuting on the river; Rees overcame nerves to finish third behind home course favourite Tori Menzel and Female Under 17 Single scull winner Ariel Van Der Poll.

It was an intense heat in the Female Under 17 Quad Scull, with THAC junior crews going head-to-head down the 750m course. Coached by Paul Mould and the crew of Millie Mould, Sophie Hill, Hannah Wilson and Claudia Cochran and coxed by Adam Cameron, they were successful ahead of Pheobe Baker, Molly and Minnie Walker, Jemima Koch and coxed by Jake Alexander.

Despite their best efforts, THAC’s Senior girls double sculls and senior boys quad were unable to overcome intense competition to finish their campaigns early.

The second success came in the Mixed Quad Scull of Hugo Dabernig, Olivia Rees, Minnie and Ben Walker, coxed by Adam Cameron. An enjoyable finish to Saturday’s campaign for the crews, with rowers now looking ahead to the Hamilton Regatta in three weeks.
