Learning Community 1

Jane Guy, Amie Parker and Kate Stoll

Prep Guy

We have been very busy in Prep Guy over the last two weeks. Everyone has been very resilient completing online assessment for Reading, Writing and the three strands of Maths. Well done everyone.

We were very lucky to have The Responsible Pet Program visit our classroom on Thursday and learnt how to approach a dog. Ask your child to sing the song they learnt, to remember the steps.

We had fun on Monday celebrating Melbourne Cup Day with all sorts of activities about horses.

In Literacy we learnt about Remembrance Day and made some beautiful poppies. In Maths we continued our work with calendars and adding special celebrations to each month.

Prep Guy Students Of The Week

Last week Cruize was voted in by his classmates to be our Star Of The Week. Students said that Cruize is fun to play with and he is respectful. Well done Cruize.

This week students voted for Rama to be our Student of The week. Students from Prep Guy said Rama tries hard and is resilient. Well done Rama.

1/2 Stoll and Parker

What a busy and fun filled two weeks we have had! Both classrooms have been busy getting assessments done whilst also integrating lots of learning surrounding revision an beginning to explore some new concepts.

In reading, we have explored concepts relating to comprehension strategies, as well as exploring grammar and punctuation within texts. We have done a lot of investigating the similarities and differences between fiction and non-fiction texts.

In writing, we have expanded our knowledge of using punctuation in our writing. We have also been focusing on writing stamina and adding more detail to create longer writing pieces. We also explored complex sentences and revised how we can effectively write engaging and interesting simple and compound sentences.

In maths, we have revised addition and counting strategies. These strategies include mental addition strategies, friends of ten and fact family concepts, the split strategy, jump strategy and using physical manipulatives to help us.

In Respectful Relationships, we have been exploring our emotions and various strategies we can use to support us to feel happy, positive, calm or ready to learn in moments when we may feel angry, frustrated, sad, tired, unwell, fidgety or excited.

Mrs Parker's student achiever for last week was Landon. Well done Landon! Keep up the great work!

Ms Stoll's student achiever from last week was our amazing Arley and this week, our caring Charlotte is our student achiever. Well done to you both, your respect, responsibility and resilience in and out of our classroom has been wonderful to see. You are superstars!
