HOL EXCURSTION

In October 2022, Darraweit Guim experienced its highest flood peaking at 7.68 metres early in the morning of October 14.

Darraweit Guim was the hardest hit town in Macedon Ranges Shire in the 2022 Victorian floods which washed out the main road and destroyed up to 15 homes as well as the historic primary school following an exceptional 82mm of rainfall and subsequent flooding of both creeks that converge in the township.

After hearing about how the school had been impacted by the floods with the teachers and students losing all their resources and the damage to the grounds and facilities.  Our students were keen to help out the school by making a mud kitchen for their playground.

We spent Term 3 building and painting the mud kitchen, mostly from timber we already had.  Our students fitted it out with black boards on the back, saucepans and utensils, and some pots with decorative flowers.

We packed up the school bus and drove the 1 and a half hours to deliver and install the mud kitchen.  While there we had a kick of the football with the students and were given a tour around by the school captains learning about the damage that had been done.

It was a great experience by all, and we are really proud of what we achieved and to be able to give back to a community that had a need.
