Year 5 Camp

What a couple of weeks it has been, with Year 5 camp, the colour run, the beach program and the Year 5 and 6s commencing their intra-house sports. If you could ask the students what is the one thing that they will remember about Year 5, they may all say Year 5 camp.

As mentioned briefly last fortnight, the Year 5 camp was a highly anticipated event. With most of our students eager to get on the bus, there was barely anytime for goodbye hugs and kisses. With excitement building, the bus trip was filled with singing and chanting the entire ride to the campground.

With no time to waste, the first of the activities started as soon as the students finished their lunch. There were a total of 6 rotation activities which included: The Rock Wall, Tash's Ladder, Inflatable City, Laser Skirmish, Group Bush Challenge and the Flying Fox. On top of completing the rotations as a group, the students had to put their teamwork and collaboration skills to the test, attempting the gruelling Monster Course.

The whole philosophy of the Summit Camp is to challenge yourself and leave nothing behind. So unaware, the groups were informed once they completed their first go on the Monster Course, that it wasn't the race against their fellow groups, it was a race against themselves, to see how much faster they could finish.

Please read through some of the recounts from the Year 5 students.

"Vroom" to bus was of. I waved goodbye to my mum standing on the sidewalk. A smile from ear to ear, grinning at her. 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 0 minutes, we were here. The bus came to a screeching holt. Everyone on the edge of their seat eager to get of the bus to their cabin. Bags were hulled up the big hill, then kids scrambled around to find their bags. We rushed to our cabin were we all franticly tried to unpack and do our beds it was like a mad house, the same thing happened on the last day but after we had an amazing experience the summit camp!

On year 5 camp, we had so much fun with all the activities like Tash's ladder, flying fox, inflatable course, rock climbing, lasher tag, monster course and the bush challenge. My favourite activity would be the bush challenge because I loved jumping in the foam pit and collet puzzle pieces and a memory from that would be working as a team to get my team up the wall because you had to lift their legs up and get the puzzle to its right pieces.

I have a lot of things about camp that were my favourite, flying-fox, mud run, Tash's ladder, the food and many more! But I will tell you my favourite thing of all... The mud run!! It was so much fun. My group and I had to do challenges while linking arms. (it was hard but fun!) the challenges we had to do were, overflow a bucket of water (we all got so wet!), carry tiers around while linking arms, throw tennis balls in a bucket, carry tiers through mud, roll around in mud for 20 seconds (my favourite) go in stinky water, go in a ball pit and last but not least we ran over the finish line... And did that all again.

Camp was really fun because of one activity that stuck out for me was taches ladder.

Basically, it was 5 ladders you would climb up and at the top a ladder sticking out from the side. With a platform beneath you would climb up it harnessed in, and it was about 2.5 meters tall the final ladder and you would climb up and when you did the adrenaline was so pumping through my veins and the view was spectacular and everyone in my group did it and since Mr Marashli is the best teacher, he gave everyone a lolly after.

The beach program is another highlight for the year. It was great for the students get out into the fresh air and enjoy some beach activities. Please enjoy a student recount.

Friday the 27th of October the year fives went to Rickets Point for a beach program. There were 3 activates that were beach activities, rock pool exploring ,and best for last kayaking. We found heaps of crabs and other sea life. This program was really fun, lots of people leant new skills! Overall, it was 10/10.
