CCTV

Wales Street Primary School has decided to install a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system at our school.
In the past, during school holidays and on weekends, we have had areas of the school grounds vandalised, roof damage, and on occasion, break-ins and theft. While there are alarms inside the buildings monitored by the DET, we would like to deter vandalism and damage to our buildings both inside and out.
Many fetes and hours of fundraising by the parent community have enabled us to have beautiful nature play spaces, gardens and play areas and it is important that they all our assets- both internal and external are protected. Cameras are only located externally around the perimeter of most buildings.
School Council approved the installation of CCTV earlier this year and as a school, there have been many department compliance measures that have had to put in place, permission and planning overseen by DET and conditions have been met, prior to the installation process. We hope to have the cameras in operation in time for the summer holiday break.
This Privacy Notice outlines how the CCTV system will be used, including the use and disclosure of any footage produced by the CCTV system so as to be consistent with Victorian privacy law.
