Book Week at Clayfield College was a blast: a literary carnival, bursting with excitement along this year’s theme of ‘Reading is Magic’! The Lower LRC was transformed into an enchanted wonderland of colour and excitement, with performances of The Witches by Year 6 drama students, and a short story competition which sparked the imaginations of many young writers.

Congratulations to all students who entered the short story competition. We know that Ms Harris and Mrs Ash had great fun reading your stories and judging was so hard they had to ask high school teachers to help! Well done to the prize winners and honourable mentions.

Chris Collin, the author of Things you can do with Blue Whale Poo, the Funky Chicken series and A Bug called Doug visited our college on Tuesday and all students from Pre-Prep to Year 6 were able to engage in lively story telling workshops about the art of story writing and illustration. Chris’ books were fun to listen to and everyone enjoyed starting their very own project.

On Friday, excitement brewed as we arrived at the Assembly Hall dressed as a character from our favourite stories for our book themed parade. Students were dressed as Mary Poppins, James in his Giant Peach, Ironman, Magical Wizards, The Babysitters Club, Little Women, Rapunzel and T-Rex!

All classes had their time to shine in the spotlight as we ran on stage, gave a twirl and danced along to the funky music. Year 6 also enjoyed helping their buddies from Pre-Prep on stage. What a wonderful way to honour literature in a celebration of imagination and storytelling! Reading really is magic!
