Principal's Message
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for the warm welcome I have received since I started earlier this week. It was especially lovely to meet you all this morning at our Father's Day event. What a wonderful community we have here at OLSS.

The Right to Disconnect
As many of you will have seen in the media, new right-to-disconnect provisions are now in place for many employees in Australia, including SCS staff. Employees have the right to refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact, or attempted contact from their employer or a third party related to their work (i.e. a parent or student) outside of working hours unless the refusal is unreasonable.
We understand that parents and students may send emails outside of hours. School staff are not required to respond to out of hours emails or calls. We also remind parents to be conscious that most staff are on class, or on supervision duties during the day, and accordingly, there may be a delay in responding to emails or calls, as our first priority has to be our duty of care to the students in front of us. The best way to contact the school is always to email our info@olssmiranda.catholic.edu.au or to call the school office for any urgent matter.
Open Parachute Program
Here at OLSS we do our very best to support the mental health of every single student. As part of this we have been trialling a new program called Open Parachute, a well-being program that provides practical support on mental health to students, teachers and parents.
We will soon implement this program in all grades and would like to start by sharing some information on a parent webinar we are offering, Supporting Your Child's Wellbeing During and After Parental Separation.
Co-Parenting Companion Clinical Psychologist Tiffany Rochester will arm parents with simple techniques and strategies to improve co-parenting, communicate with their child, and provide actionable tips to help safeguard their children’s emotional and psychological wellbeing during and after separation.
If you would like to attend this webinar please register your attendance for Tuesday, 3 September 2024.

Happy Father's Day to all our Dads and father figures! May they be blessed with all things that are "good for their souls" this Sunday....especially our love and gratitude!
And for those of us whose fathers are no longer with us, may today be one of remembering and gladness. Our thoughts and prayers are particularly with families of fathers and grandfathers who have passed away. May they be at peace.
"God took the strength of a mountain, the majesty of a tree, the warmth of a summer sun, the calm of a quiet sea, the generous soul of nature, the comforting arm of night, the wisdom of the ages, the power of the eagle’s flight, the joy of a morning in spring, the faith of a mustard seed, the patience of eternity, the depth of a family need, then God combined these qualities, when there was nothing more to add, He knew His masterpiece was complete, and so, He called it … Dad."
