DT Update
The Olympics have been in full swing in DT this term!
Juniors
To begin the term, the juniors have been refining their skills of logging into the Chromebooks and using Google Slides. They have been working hard on an art piece for our Art Show which we can’t wait to show off!
This week the juniors began coding and participated in a BeeBot olympics! We began our session with an opening ceremony and lighting of the cauldron and participated in sports such as break dancing, soccer and running. We had so much fun competing in the different events! The BeeBots really were great athletes!
Seniors
The seniors have been learning about olympic mascots and have begun coming up with their own designs for the next Australian olympic mascot. Consulting their peers through Google Forms, the students worked in small groups to design a mascot that they felt best represented Australia and their community. Once the students created their design they then used the program Tinkercad to transform their idea to a 3D design.
In Week 3, the seniors participated in an mBot olympics where they created an opening ceremony course and used their mBot to light the cauldron. The thought and creativity that went into the ceremonies as well as the planning to make their codes accurate was fantastic to see!
The students then used their mBots to compete in different events like soccer and running.

VISUAL ARTS - TERM 3
Seniors have been busy building their skills to create blended effects with oil pastels and paint fine sharp outlines. They have been creating realistic, enlarged animal eyes for their multimedia Animal Faces Collage that they are working on.
These will be a great highlight at the upcoming Art Show on Thursday the 7th November in the hall. Save the date and mark it into your diaries!!!
Art club have also been meeting regularly on Wednesdays and the small group have been creating posters for the upcoming Twilight market and Art Show and organising details for our scavenger hunt. Stay tuned for more information about these exciting events.
Juniors have been developing their colour theory awareness by blending three primary colours to create secondary colours using a paint palette and collage techniques.
They have created a 3-D colour wheel bowl from a paper plate and added drawing details to create coloured birds on a twig.
We also had the exciting Specialists Day with the company Didgeridoo Australia. Ganga and Barama came and presented Aboriginal song and dance to the students and students then went into 3 different groups to develop these experiences further.
The whole school collaboration of Bunjil the Eagle was created on this day. This required every student to decorate one of Bunjil’s feathers and these were then assembled to create the Bunjil mural that is now displayed in front of the hall.

GRADE 5/6 SPORT
The Grade 5/6 students demonstrated attentive listening during their second last training session in preparation for the Lightning Premiership. The teachers are performing exceptionally well in maintaining the students' motivation and enjoyment. It is gratifying to observe the significant improvement in their skills since the outset. We extend our gratitude to Noah's father for his assistance in coaching the Basketball Teams.
GRADE 3 / 4 SPORT
The students in Grades 3 and 4 are actively participating in their inter-school sports rotations and are paying close attention to the rules of each sport. They eagerly anticipate their time in Grades 5 and 6, when they will have the opportunity to compete against other schools.

SPORTING SCHOOLS – VOLLEYBALL CLINICS
This week was the second volleyball clinic. Ann and Josh from DS Sports came to SFS to run the clinics. The students had a great time. They have been exposed to a new sport, learning basic skills in volleyball such as volleying and setting. We hope that perhaps there may be some students that enjoy volleyball and would like to continue it after school as part of a club.
We are excited to be able to offer our students so many extra curricula activities.
Please ensure your child is wearing their sports uniform and brings their drink bottle on the following days:

SFS HOUSE OLYMPICS
What a great time our staff and students are having competing in our own Olympics! Each LS Juniors and Seniors are going out and competing in various novelty events in their Houses. Points are being given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There won’t be any more updates of points. If you want to know the winning House you will need to join us at the Closing Ceremony!
Please come and join us in our Olympic Closing Ceremony on Monday 9th September at 9.00m where we will announce the Houses in 1st, 2nd, 3rd in each Learning Space and finally the House that is 1st in the overall school competition.
SWIMMING
Thank you to all the parents who have completed the swimming Operoo form. If parents who have not completed it, could please do so as I will need to provide Casey Race with final numbers. Monday a swimming ability form was sent home for all students. Casey Race has changed management and unfortunately due to privacy issues records from students’ previous lessons have not been able to be transferred across. Please complete this form and return to your child’s home group teacher no later than Monday September 2nd. These will be passed onto the pool so that students can be placed into their initial groups. Students will be further assessed in their first swimming lesson.
Parent who have volunteered to assist the juniors, I will be checking that your Working with Children Check is current and registered with the school office. I will then be in contact with you prior to swimming beginning.
Swimming timetables have been uploaded onto the Operoo permission form as an attachment. Please print it off and ensure you have it available at home. Parents please note you are welcome to attend Casey Race to view your child’s lesson but photographs and videos are not allowed and only parents who have been contacted by me will be able to assist in the junior change rooms.
A reminder to parents that swimming is an important part of the PE curriculum and all students are expected to attend. It’s imperative that students know how to keep themselves safe around water. If there is a medical reason your child cannot attend, you will need to provide a medical certificate for your child to be exempt. They will then remain at school in another Learning Space.
FOOTY FUN DAY
As is the tradition, Footy Fun Day will be held on the last day of term. We encourage students and staff to come dressed in their footy clothes or footy team colours. P&F will be organising a footy fun day lunch which will include sausage in bread, Krispy Kream donut and drink. Further information will be provided shortly.
We are also looking for any enthusiastic footy parents to come and join us in the annual teacher vs Gr 6 match at 10.20am on the day. Remember you must have a current Working with Children Check registered at the office to join us. If you are interested, please email me at the email address below.
Parents we ask you to please acknowledge the Operoo form posted for Footy Fun Day. An approximate timetable for the day can also be found on the Operoo note. A reminder that we will finish at 1.00pm on the day for the end of term.
