Knox Division Winter Sport Achievements
The recent winter sports competition brought an electric atmosphere and showcased remarkable talent and dedication from all our students. St Simon had a plethora of teams that advanced from the District competition: We’re thrilled to share some of the standout moments and achievements that made this event truly unforgettable.
AFL Boys/Mixed: Runners Up - 2nd overall
At the AFL Division Boys/Mixed Championships, our St Simon boys emerged as the runners after a nail-biting final match. Their teamwork, strategic plays, and relentless effort in a sloppy ground secured them the top spot in their pool. Our boys were able to secure a grand final spot after a comfortable semi final win against a tough Mountain Gate team. It seemed like an old rematch of the team with St Simon against Lysterfield but the toll of the day’s play plagued our boy with fatigue. In the end, they lost their grand final by 12 points but were proud to be 2nd overall in the Knox Division.
Soccer Girls: Runner Ups - 2nd overall
We are thrilled to announce that our team has secured an impressive 2nd place for our soccer girls team in the recent Knox Division soccer competition! Their outstanding performance and relentless effort throughout the tournament have earned them a well-deserved spot on the podium.
From the opening match to the final whistle, our players showcased incredible skill, teamwork, and determination. Their journey to the finals was marked by memorable victories, winning all their round robin pool games and making it to a major grand final. The final ended up a draw of 2 goals each at the end of regulation and extra time. It was a thrilling finish on penalties that saw them narrowly missing out on the top spot. Well done girls on a fine effort and grand accomplishment for our school!
Netball Girls:5th Overall
Netball Boys/Mixed: 3rd Overall
It was a tough competition for our girls as there were many talented teams at this level of competition. Games were fast paced for both competitions. Our boys/mixed made a strong effort to maintain possession through solid passing and quick movement towards their goals. Our girls
Teeball Girls: 3rd overall
Our girls made the most of every game, hitting, throwing the ball off the tee and making excellent fielding decisions to get runners out. Our girls won their first game comfortably but came up against Lysterfield in a very tough game on a muddy ground that came down to the last inning. Unfortunately, we lost by only 1 run. We were able to play a minor final for 3rd and 4th place. Our girls wanted to go home on a positive note and made the effort to win their last final game. Well done girls on coming 3rd place at the tee ball competition!
This competition would not have been possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers and the enthusiastic cheering of our spectating parents. Your contributions played a crucial role in the effort of our students, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment and enthusiasm.
Year 5 and 6 Senior Hoop Time Basketball Competition
On Monday 26th August, our Year 5 and 6 students celebrated and applied their basketball skills learnt from the Physical Education program at the Basketball Victoria Hoop Time competition. There was a great buzz around the stadium from our All Star, Future Star and Rookie teams.
It was pleasing to see the offensive and defensive skills on display in each game. Our Year 5 and 6 students made an effort to control their dribbling up the court and making purposeful passes to their teammates. There were some great jump shots and layups attempts in their games and our students demonstrated poised defence that slowed down their opponent from passing and scoring. It was exciting to see our boys and girls score buckets, particularly those who scored for the first time in a game of basketball.
Our students wish to share their experience from the day below:
All Star Girls: Our girls ran plays that worked very well, providing them with scoring opportunities. They made it to a Grand Final and were runners up from the competition! - Mr Camerino
All Star Boys 1: We did well even with challenging games. Everyone scored which helped our side get up against other teams. In the end we won all our round robin games. The team worked together well, communicating, keeping a positive attitude and passing the ball well. In the grand final, it was close and just lost by 3. - Mason R
All Star Boys 2: We did pretty well and if we had a few more games together, we would have played amazingly! - Alexander H
Future Stars: Anacondas : We did our best to try and win but lost all our games. We had a game plan for every game and people played their positions well. - Leon T
Future Stars: Suns : Our team tried their real hardest. Some of the opponents were challenging but it was a really fun day. We scored a lot of points in our game. - Jillian R
Future Stars: Avengers : We did try very hard but the other teams were very tough. We were positive to our teammates and did our best to shoot goals but some of them didn’t drop in the basket. - Audrey D
Future Stars: Aces : We all worked as a team to get wins on the day but sadly we lost 1 game. We played great offence and defence and Miss Corrigan was a great coach cheering us on and helping us - Layla R
Future Stars: Storm : We started off strong with a win against the other St Simon Future Star team. After a good effort, we lost the second game but we won the third game 24 - 0. We played well as a team and had a fair share of the ball in our mixed team. - Emmett B
Future Stars: Alligators : We won all our games and made it to the semi finals. We all got passes and everyone looked for better options rather than dribble the ball themselves. I’m very proud of how far our team got on the day. - Rebecca L
Future Stars: Angels : We won all our round robins games by many points. Everyone got to score for our team. We made it to the grand final but lost against a good side - Matisse K
Rookies Teams: All of us worked together as a team and if we lost we cheered on to the other team. As the day went on, we all improved in our skills. - Anysia T
We would like to thank all our parents and Year 5 and 6 teachers for their support as coaches and scorers on the day! Our students made great improvements after each game with your help. We hope our success and learning from the Hoop Time experience has encouraged our students to further pursue playing basketball in the future.
