LPS Sporting Achievements

Off the back of watching the Olympic Games in Paris on the television, it is only fitting that I recognise some outstanding achievements we have had in sport so far in 2024 at LPS.

Firstly Jarlie F. Jarlie is so passionate about her basketball. Almost every lunchtime she is out on the court shooting hoops with friends or taking Mr B on in a one-on-one showdown. Earlier this year Jarlie trialled for the School Sports Victoria Under 12 team. Jarlie was one of 300 plus girls that participated in the trials. The trials consisted of 3 rounds. Jarile made it to the final round of 28 players. Jarile narrowly missed the final 10 that were selected to represent the state at nationals. Congratulations on your achievement Jarlie. You made us proud, and I know you gave it you’re all at the trials. You are a star!!

Sienna F and Delilah D represented the school proudly at many cross-country events this year. Both achieved the ultimate by winning through the qualifying events such as, district, division, region to get through to the School State Cross Country event.  On a wet, very muddy and tough track both achieved great results. Deliah finished 26th and Sienna 41st out of 86 competitors. Well done girls I know you trained hard and the effort you put in got you through to the top. Keep striving high.

Our Year 5 and 6 Girls AFL team have made it to State finals!! This team is amazing. We have girls who have never played before and girls coming from different teams, but boy have they worked together magnificently. Every team member has contributed and played their hearts out each game. Their efforts have paid off. LPS is one of eight schools to qualify for the state finals. Whatever happens in the finals, I know you all have loved every minute of your footy, and we will show the other teams what LPS is made of. Enjoy State girls. You all rock!!

Senior PE Classes

In Term 3, Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 classes we have undertaken a variety of activities to do with net and wall games. Net and wall games allow participants to actively develop skills and practice techniques in a controlled environment that encourages quick and responsive decision making. Students have developed their skills in sports such as pickle ball, spike ball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton.

Year 3 and 4 – Badminton lessons

Some of our Year 3 and 4 classes have had the opportunity to work with Ben a badminton coach from Mornington Peninsula Badminton Association. The school received a sporting school grant which was used to employ Ben to work with students. For many, this has been a new experience. Many students said they haven’t had the opportunity to play badminton before. Students have really enjoyed their badminton experience and their skills have improved greatly over the 4-week program.
