Staff vs Students Netball - Friday 13 September

Time for redemption... The Staff vs Students Netball game will be held on Friday 13 September at lunchtime. At this stage, the game will be on the outdoor courts, but stay tuned for updates.

We’ll organise the Netball bibs, but students need to bring their own shorts and runners. Erica Andrew (Year 12, Everard House) will be the player/coach for the student team. If you're interested in playing, please speak to her.

We are still looking for a qualified/competent netball umpire. If you’re interested please let Mr Stubbings know.

If you’re not up to playing, we’d still love to have your support. Join us at the court at lunch and cheer on your team.

Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics

On Wednesday 4 September Eltham High competed at the Northern Metropolitan Region Athletics Finals at Meadowglen Athletics Track in Epping. We had 38 students competing throughout the day in both individual events and relays.

Eltham finished 2nd overall on the day which was a huge effort considering how small of a team we were compared to some of the other schools across the region.

It was great to see so many amazing individual performances with many athletes going home with medals and qualifying for the SSV State Finals. (first place in each event and first and second from the 3000m, 1500m and 1500m Walk events progresses through to the State Finals)

Below are our medal winners for the day:

Elly Anestis (Year 8 Skipper House) (1 Silver)

Ethan Armstrong Bourne (Year 11 Everard House) (2 Gold & 1 Bronze)

Ally Brooks (Year 11 Everard House) (3 Gold)

Jack Beddoe (Year 8 Everard House) (1 Silver)

James Beddoe (Year 8 Everard House) (1 Gold & 1 Bronze)

Well done to all our athletes who competed on the day. Regardless of your results you have done Eltham High School and yourself very proud.

Congratulations and good luck to the 9 students (Ethan, Ally, James, Anu, Ethan, Joe, Yorke, Arizona and Jesse) who will go on to represent our school at the SSV State Finals on October 21.

Year 10 Skills For Life - Level 2 First Aid

Recently students in Year 10 Skills For Life engaged in a Level 2 First Aid Course which took place over the course of a full day off-site at Vic First Aid located nearby on Main Road in Eltham.

As part of this full day course, students learnt a range of concepts linked to responding to emergency situations including how to approach an emergency situation using the D.R.S.A.B.C.D approach, how to successfully deliver CPR on individuals at varying age ranges, how to manage specific first aid scenarios such as Asthma, Anaphylaxis, Bleeds, Snake Bites, and much more.

As part of engaging in this educational experience, these students will now walk away from this course with an official Level 2 First Aid accreditation and formal certificate which they can now add as a formal qualification to their own resume when seeking employment in the near future.

This course is part of a unit of work in the elective which focuses on Aquatic Safety Principles whereby students learn a range of key safety skills such as First Aid Concepts in order to maintain and ensure the safety of both themselves and others around them when engaging in bodies of water ranging from beaches, lakes, rivers, and indoor pool environments.

This unit of work provides these students with important knowledge, skills and hands-on experience to teach them the importance of appropriate decision making and how to effectively respond to a range of emergency situations, particularly in aquatic environments where hazards and levels of risk can be extremely high.

This is just one of the fantastic experiences which build life-long skills that students at Eltham High Sc can receive by electing to undertake Year 10 Skills For Life as part of their Year 10 studies.
