Mathematics

One of the numeracy assessment tools at Hampton PS is a school-wide digital resource called Essential Assessment. This resource does not require an app but the Essential Assessment icon can be added to the home screen of any iPad for easy reference. This resource allows teachers to set pre-assessments in any area of maths. Assigned tasks are automatically set for skills that were not evident in the pre-tests. This allows for individual differentiation and helps class teachers to set the direction of focused group and whole class teaching and learning. The proficiencies of Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning are fundamental to the 6 strands of Mathematics. 

Our focus this term -

Number - At the start of the term we will focus on consolidating understanding of place value (including fractions and decimals) and using problem solving strategies. As we progress throughout the term, we will investigate properties of numbers and some mathematical operations to find unknown values in equations.

Statistics - We will focus on collecting categorical and numerical data as well as interpreting and constructing data displays such as graphs, dot plots and tables. 

Measurement - We will focus on using appropriate units of measurement for length, mass, perimeter, area, capacity and volume and comparing and converting between 12- and 24-hour time systems.
