General Information & Reminders

Dear Year 5 Parents,
Welcome
Welcome to Year 5. We are looking forward to a positive, engaging, and enjoyable 2026 working with your children and alongside each family. During the first few weeks, Year 5 students will be participating in a range of wellbeing start‑up activities designed to build relational trust between students and staff at HPS. These activities also help establish a shared understanding of our schoolwide expectations, classroom norms and how we can work together to create a successful, respectful learning community.
Communication
All communication this year will be sent via Compass. Please check notifications and emails regularly to stay up to date. Compass is where you will find:
- Attendance information (including submitting absence notes)
- Fortnightly school newsletters
- Sports carnivals and event details
- Excursion and incursion information, permissions, and payments
- Whole‑school announcements
Semester reports
Homework Expectations
Homework in Term 1 will include:
- Nightly reading (20–30 minutes): Students record their reading in their diary each night. A parent signature is required.
- Matific mathematics tasks: These will be set up over the coming weeks. Students will receive their individual login details and instructions.
- Public Speaking: Beginning in Week 4 and running for three weeks with Mrs Purple. Each week, students will write and practise a speech to present the following week.
- Additional tasks as required: This may include Inquiry project work or other activities that need to be completed at home.
Diaries must be brought to school every day so teachers can check reading logs and homework progress. They also will contain important information that your child needs at school such as their log in details for various applications on their ipads.
We encourage students to complete their homework during weekdays. However, we understand that some families have busy after‑school schedules. In these cases, students may choose to use part of their weekend to catch up. Where possible, we prefer students to enjoy a homework‑free weekend to rest and recharge.
If a student is absent when homework is explained, they are expected to check in with their teacher to catch up on instructions.
If you have any concerns or queries throughout the year, the first place to start is with your child’s teacher. We look forward to meeting all of you in the coming weeks.
5A - Jonathon (Jonny) Pepi
5B - Cindi Kunaratnam (Mon-Thurs) and Maddy Paslis (Fri)
5C - Jackson Moffitt
