Last Tuesday 13th February, we came together as a school community to learn about and celebrate Shrove Tuesday, known to a lot of people as 'Pancake Tuesday'. Home made pancake batter was prepared and thanks to Sam D and Sandi, a generous amount of pancakes were cooked for students to enjoy.
Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, which formally marks the beginning of Lent. As a school community we attend Mass to mark the occasion but due to the town wide power outage and minimal staff and students onsite, only a small representation of our school community attended.
The theme for Project Compassion this year is "For All Future Generations". This year, it's inspired by the story of Exodus (3:1-20). In this story, God tells Moses that he has heard the cry of the people. God responds to things not being fair and chooses Moses to speak to Pharaoh. Though Moses is afraid, God promises to be with him. And God said, "This is my name for all time; by this name I shall be invoked for all generations to come.' As God called Moses, so now God calls us to work for justice for all future generations.
As a school community we have brainstormed with the children ways we can raise money for Project Compassion and we have landed on a few options.
Philippines
After the birth of her children, 22-year-old Ronita was at risk of having to leave school permanently. But with the support of Caritas Australia’s partners in the Philippines, she resumed her studies and now has a job to support her family.
Have a wonderful fortnight.
Cheers,
