It is hard to believe we are past the halfway mark of the term already. The long weekend gave everyone the opportunity to relax and refresh at the midway point of the term.
Wagin Woolorama
We still have a lot of things to get through this term. It is the Woolorama this weekend so a couple of buses will be transporting students over to Wagin on Saturday to both compete and support our competitors. It will be an early start leaving here around 5.30am and they will not be returning until 5.30pm - 6.00pm.
WACOA Sport Carnival
Next weekend we have the WACOA sports carnival where all the other Ag Colleges are invited to attend Harvey to participate in a sporting style weekend. Students will be able to choose between 12 different events, so there is something for everyone. All schools are limited to 50 competitors, allowing students to compete in a minimum of two events over the two days. It is great seeing the camaraderie that is built by all the Colleges as they compete over the weekend and it is a highlight of being part of the Ag College system.
Skippers Ticket
We have Skippers Ticket happening over the next few weeks, this is a massive undertaking with Ms Stringer as she co-ordinates this course. I know at one point there was over 70 students indicating that they wished to participate, what a great opportunity for the students.
Lock Down Drill
On Wednesday night we undertook a lock down drill in the Residence. Most students treated the drill with the respect it deserved, however it was disappointing to hear that a minority of students thought it was a big joke. Mr Jones was able to recall one evening when we were forced into a lockdown here onsite many years ago, explaining how it went from a normal evening to a very extraordinary evening in a matter of minutes. I do hope those student who were not treating the drill with respect got something out of Mr Jones' first hand account of an evening we would not wish to experience again.
