Performing Arts

Students in the lower grades have made an exciting start to our Performing Arts unit by exploring the book Go Away, Cheeky Animals! They were highly engaged in learning how author and illustrator Dion Beasley drew inspiration from his real-life experiences to create his illustrations. Inspired by this, students created their own maps or drawings of animals they might see around Canteen Creek. Over the coming weeks, we will continue to build on this work, exploring ways to bring the story to life through acting and creating puppets to retell the tale.
The upper grades have been focussing on ensemble playing and being adept at reading and playing music accurately. All classes have been improving their rhythm and timing as they play together resulting in some excellent recordings of their work. The instruments we have mainly focussed on are marimba, xylophone, Boomwhackers™ and ukulele.
