Year Three/Four News

Welcome to Week 4. We have had a busy couple of weeks and students have been engaged in their learning.
In Reading we have been learning how to compare different stories. We have read The Three Little Pigs, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs and The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. To support your child's learning, we encourage discussions at home about the different stories we have read this week. Students identified different characters, settings and events from each of the three stories and presented the information in a Triple Venn Diagram.
In the past couple of weeks, Year 3/4 students have been busy planning and drafting their short story. This year’s Writers Festival has been inspired by Journey by Aaron Becker and students’ stories have a focus on a character going on a journey. They have identified the genre of short story and completed a planning Narrative Template. As all good writers complete more than one draft, students have been challenged to write two or three drafts. Next week, all students will begin to publish and write a good copy ready for the Writers Festival. We look forward to welcoming all families to read the amazing short stories in the coming weeks!
In Maths, students have been working on their understanding of division this week. Using their previous knowledge from our work on multiplication, students have used strategies including repeated subtraction, halving and equal groups to solve a variety of division problems. Today, we used Thinkboards to practise each of these strategies. Check out some of our work below!
Next week is Book Week! Throughout the week students will be participating in a variety of events to celebrate Book Week. Monday the 25th August will be the day where students can dress up as their favourite book character.
