World Indigenous peoples day 2025

A focus on the lands and culture of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurung.

On Tuesday 19th of August, a 13 students comprised of Student Leaders and GECOS engaged in an ‘info bingo’ activity. Utilising info cards placed in the threee Indigenous gardens, they were tasked with discovering information on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung culture and practices as it relates to particular plants. A thoughtful and insightful group discussion followed.

Composting begins...

Toward zero food waste at Glenroy college!

We're so excited to champion the work of Glenroy's own Student Enviro Group, GECOS. GECOS (Glenroy Environment and Conservation Organisation of Students) have played a pivotal role in the creation and maintenance of three indigenous plant gardens around the school. They have also kept the composting program running in their aim of Zero Food Waste at Glenroy College.

Their latest achievement in collaboration with Student Leadership was to engage in an activity for World Indigenous Peoples Day. Utilising the three gardens mentioned with info cards placed in them, the students went on an information hunt to discover the cultural significance and ways that the pants have been used for the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people for thousands of years.

GECOS plans on continuing awareness raising around their projects and to inspire more people to get around their Zero Food Waste movement.

If your child would like to join GECOS please be in touch with Nic;
