From our Principal

A letter from Mr. Andrew Arney

Building Updates

I wrote to families once again this to seek support in advocating for funding from the State Government for the first stage of our new master plan.

The first stage includes a new STEAM centre (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), a new Cafe and Canteen and some general purpose classrooms to replace our oldest remaining buildings, the Middle Learning space and the technology wing.

With an election coming up in 2026, we are seeking your support to keep pressure on our state representatives to fund this important project, and to give our kids the learning spaces they deserve. Ideally we would love to see funding committed as part of the next state budget in May.

The College Council have written a letter to be sent to various members of the State Government, but I would ask you to reach out yourselves to support us in this. This could be through social media, direct email or even in person if you have contact with those listed below.

If you have any other ideas on how to support us in this call to action, please reach out to me so we can brain storm how to make this happen!

AFL Academy

This month was quite momentus with the announcement of the Glenroy College AFL Academy for 2026

Working with The Academy Movement, classes will run as full year electives in year 9 and 10, progressing into year 11 in 2027. Students will undertake excursions to elite facilities, study umpiring and coaching certifications, undertake strength and conditioning coaching, and participate in regular training and competitions.

Student will then have the opportunity to explore career pathways in Sports Management, Sport Science and Fitness in year 11 and 12 as part of their VCE or VCEVM. Exciting times ahead!

Maths, Science and Digitech @ Glenroy

This term has seen a flurry of activity in our Science, Maths and Digital Technologys faculties!

First off we had the RMIT university "Future STEM Leaders" sessions. The Future STEM Leaders program targets and supports the growth and development of leadership skills in year 9 and 10 women to be STEM Leaders in a classroom through facilitating the delivery of a practical STEM workshop to younger year students. The STEM Leaders learning is guided by industry experts and Women in STEM Ambassadors who are current RMIT students studying a variety of disciplines across STEM.

Then we saw our 3rd Annual Math and Digitech Olympics, where 7 of our excellent feeder schools came to compete with the hope they would walk away with this years trophy. A range of activies gave them the opportunity show show their problem solving and teamwork skills, all while sampleing what we have to offer at Glenroy College.

Although the results were really close, Pascoe Vale North Primary came away as winners for the second year in a row.

Thanks

Finally I wanted to send my thanks to my fabulous Principal Team, Lidia Tizian, Jen Ames and Peta Johnstone. It was great to be able to take a few weeks of leave knowing that these amazing leaders had everything under control.

Particular thanks to Peta and Jen who stepped in as Acting Principal in my absence.
