In the last few weeks of Term 3 in Performing Arts, Prep students explored how dance is used to communicate ideas and to celebrate. They have explored dance in different cultures, incorporating clap sticks to understand how Australian Aboriginal culture uses dance to tell stories. They have increased their dance and coordination skills each week and finally learnt a choreographed disco dance which they performed in front of their class. This term the Prep students are looking forward to shifting their focus to drama, where they will be learning acting skills, such as how to use facial expressions and body movement.
Year 1 and 2 students have just begun their Term 4 unit called "Around the World". In this unit they will learn about maps, and countries and continents around the world. They will learn how to read maps. We will locate and name continents around the world and learn about them. So far, year 1 and 2 students have learnt about maps and globes. They learnt how we can use both of them to know where countries and continents are. They also looked at real life globes and found things such as the land, sea and countries!

Year 3 and 4 students finished off Term 3 by learning about paper collaging and clay sculpturing. It was exciting to see how students have progressed since the last time students were exposed to this medium. Students were tasked with creating marine-themed sculptures, which resulted in all sorts of creations like fish, coral and fossils!
Now in Term 4, we are learning about art galleries in preparation of our bi-annual SMPS Art Show. So far, most students have selected a piece of art that they are proud of to be displayed in the gallery which will be accompanied by a description of their piece. They will present this to their peers in class. In the later weeks of the term, students will plan and work on their Personal Project - an art piece of their choice.

This past two weeks in Years 5 and 6, we have started to practice the events for the House Sports Day. Last week, we began practicing our sprint, egg & spoon and obstacle races. We had lots of fun in some friendly competitions in our classes! This week, we practiced our throwing events: javelin and shot put. We tested ourselves by seeing who could throw each object the furthest. We then took part in a target netball game. Well done to all the children taking part in P.E. this week!
In Term 3, Year 1 to 6 visited the library every week. During these sessions 2,702 library books were circulated. The classes who borrowed the most books are:
