Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
Our Prep students have had an incredible start to Term 4! We have begun many new topics including taking care of the earth in English, sharing equally in Maths, changing environments in Science and how to be safe at school in Personal Social Capabilities. The students have quickly reconnected and dove into their learning.
We are looking forward to another exciting term in Prep!

Once upon a time, in Year 1, the students begun a new topic in English exploring Fairy Tales! We listened to Rumpelstiltskin and acted out the story in small groups. We witnessed some outstanding acting using facial expressions and character voices. The students also listened to a version of Rupunzel. They used their imagination to write an alternate way Rupunzel could have gotten out of the tower. We are looking forward to reading more fairy tales this term.

Our Year 2 students were enthralled by the creativity and enthusiasm of Bernard Caleo's author in-visit. He shared a storytelling technique called Kamishibai meaning 'Paper Story.' The stories included a mystery egg, treats and stories and a dog called Split Dog! During the session, our students had the opportunity to draw using the element of suspense. It was a pleasure having Bernard visit SMPS. We hope our students will use this visit as inspiration for the stories they will be writing in English!

The Year 3 students have been busy planning, drafting, and publishing their own narratives, inspired by our class novel Fortunately, the Milk. Each student was challenged to create a new ending to the story, showing great imagination and effort throughout the writing process. We have been so impressed by the care they took with their editing and presentation, and are incredibly proud of the beautifully written work they have produced!

The Year 4 students have made a fantastic start to Term 4, settling back into routines with ease and enthusiasm. They are already enjoying our new class novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, engaging thoughtfully with its characters and themes. In Humanities, students have begun exploring the significance of the Yarra River to our city as part of our new unit on rivers. There’s a real buzz of excitement in the air as we look forward to our excursion on Monday, where we’ll experience the Yarra River up close on a Melbourne river cruise!

Our Year 5 students have returned to Term 4 full of energy and enthusiasm, ready to make the most of their final term for the year! They have quickly reconnected with friends and dove back into learning. We look forward to celebrating all they will achieve in the weeks ahead as they prepare to step up into their final year of primary school and at SMPS.
This term, we are reading a novel called The Girl of Ink and Stars. We have enjoyed learning about the author Kiran Millwood Hargrave and making a start on reading the novel. We completed some work on the setting of the book which is a mysterious place called Gromera on the island of Joya.

In Mathematics, students have spent the last two weeks learning about Transformations. A highlight was creating tessellations digitally and by hand. Students demonstrated their abilities to translate, rotate and reflect to create beautiful and abstract pieces of art! Check out some examples below.
