Overnewton’s Intermediate & Senior Footballers took on Melbourne Victory’s affiliated schools in a 7v7 tournament at Darebin this week.
Both our Boys’ and Girls’ intermediate teams fought hard, qualifying for finals and finishing as proud semi-finalists!
During the play-offs, the girls secured a confident 2-0 win over Dandenong, while the boys delivered a nail-biting comeback against Western Heights. They turned a 3-1 deficit in a penalty shootout into a 4-3 triumph with goalkeeper Aiden pulling off crucial saves before slotting home the winner.
Our Senior Boys’ and Girls’ teams had successful tournaments both reaching the semi-final stage.
Going into the semi-final undefeated, our boys team played some exciting football, however, came up against a strong defensive team. This led to a nail-biting penalty shootout, which ended up in a narrow 7-6 loss. Our girls side showed determination and resilience against a very strong semi finalist. Unfortunately, the team were overrun in the end and fell short of reaching the final.
Well done to all players for displaying commitment, school pride & teamwork during this exciting competition!
