Clyde North Campus News

Student leadership has been the focus of this week and will continue to be for the next couple of weeks as we begin the process of electing the 2026 College and House Captains. Ms Courtney Ross our year 10-12 Pastoral Care Leader along with the House Leaders provided an outstanding leadership development day for year 11 students on Tuesday. I congratulate and thank pastoral team and students for their work and what was a tremendous collaborative effort leading to a most successful day. We look forward to the election process and encourage all year 11 students to think deeply about the prospect of applying for a college captaincy for 2026.

Please enjoy Ms Ross’ reflection of the day presented below.

Year 11 Leadership Day

At St Peter’s College, leadership is more than a title - it’s a commitment to serve, inspire, and make a meaningful difference. At the heart of our leadership model is the call to servant leadership - to lead through action, guided by the values of respect, responsibility, and unity. This year’s Year 11 Leadership Training Day was a valuable opportunity for students to explore leadership in a supportive environment guided by their House Leaders.

The day encouraged students to reflect on what it means to lead with integrity and to recognise leadership as the ability to empower others. Through a series of interactive activities, students developed a deeper understanding of their own leadership strengths and learned how to recognise and support the strengths of their peers.

Highlights of the day included group-building exercises such as the Egg Drop Challenge, exploration of leadership styles, and reflection on how personality types of influence collaboration. A standout session delivered by Success Integrated - complete with a DJ - focused on the power of belief, positive self-talk, and learning from those around us.

Grounded in our Catholic identity and inspired by the example of St Peter, students also reflected on the mission we share as a faith community. They drew inspiration from a range of leaders from all walks of life and considered how they might serve the College community in 2026 and beyond.

The day concluded with insights from our current College Captains and College Executive team, who shared their experiences in balancing leadership with study, offering practical advice and encouragement to those considering leadership roles.

Year 12 Incursion – Red Frogs Safe Partying Session

On Tuesday, 19 August, our Year 12 students took part in an engaging and insightful incursion delivered by Red Frogs Australia, an organisation that has been supporting young people since 1997. Widely recognised for their presence at Schoolies events across Australia and internationally, Red Frogs are dedicated to promoting safety, wellbeing, and informed decision-making among young adults.

The focus of this session was safe partying behaviours, coinciding with recent classroom discussions around navigating difficult social situations and conflict resolution. Through an interactive and informative presentation, students explored a range of topics including:

  • The effects of drugs and alcohol

  • Legal implications of substance use

  • Peer pressure and how to manage it

  • Practical tips for staying safe at parties

  • Supporting friends in social settings

  • When and how to access emergency services

The Red Frogs team delivered these important messages in a relatable and engaging way, encouraging open discussion and reflection. As a bonus, student participation was rewarded with the iconic red frog lolly!

As many of our Year 12’s turn 18 this year, this incursion was an invaluable opportunity for our students to develop the knowledge and confidence to make safe and informed choices as they approach greater independence. (Ms Ross)

I take this opportunity to sincerely thank Mr Brannan for his leadership of the campus during the first four weeks of term. I also thank Mr Stewart and Ms Storey who took on the roles of Acting Yr 7-9 Pastoral Leader and Acting MacKillop House Leader respectively during this period enabling me to enjoy some long service leave.

I have come back most refreshed and looking forward to the rest of the term and indeed the warmer weather that Spring will bring.
