We at Hampton Primary School support and advocate for the principles which underpin the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships curriculum. As a school we have just completed teaching topic 7 - Gender Norms and Stereotypes. Did you know, studies show that school-based social and emotional learning, respectful relationships education and other violence prevention initiatives can make a real difference, producing lasting change in attitudes and behaviours in students. Providing comprehensive classroom programs to all students is a key part of a whole-of-school approach to preventing gender-based violence and promoting positive relationships. Research shows that children become aware of gender at an early age, are well aware of gender norms, and are making efforts to fit within gendered expectations by the time they are in kindergarten.
In order to share our practice with the wider community we have collated some examples of student work and reflections from some year levels. If you’d like to learn any more about this curriculum please visit https://www.vic.gov.au/respectful-relationships
