Ryan’s Rambling

Dear Families,
The feeing of Autumn has certainly hit the air this week, with some mornings even requiring jumpers and coats! I am sure that many of you have appreciated and enjoyed the change in weather, along with a bit of rain!
I actually spent a few days away from school this week due to some professional learning and Principal Network meetings, which left me feeling a little lost and missing our students. So, it was wonderful to return later this week to a number of happy smiles and “Mr. Oliver, where have you been?!” comments from our kids.
Our resilient and amazing Grade 3 and 5 students have now completed their NAPLAN testing for this year. Despite some very minor early nerves, our staff all commented on the grit and growth mindset shown by all students during their NAPLAN exams. I have already fielded a couple of questions regarding results and timelines. Unfortunately, it is not clear when the results will be released to parents and schools. Last year, the results were released late in Term Three; however, I am hoping that we might know earlier this year.
It was a delight to meet two Japanese Exchange Students, from our sister city, Inagawa. Both Nanako and Takara are visiting after being successful in an English Speech Competition. Through conversations with the City of Ballarat, who are coordinating the visit, we will be hosting both girls at our school on Monday, which will be fantastic.
On Tuesday next week, we have approximately 50 students representing our school at the Division Athletics Carnival. This is a fantastic contingent from our relatively small school. After the success of our recent School Sports, I know our students will have a successful day.
Next Wednesday morning, our Student Leaders will be hosting the first of three school tours for prospective parents of 2026 students. I know I asked this last week, but if you have any family or people you know looking to enroll at Dana Street for 2026, please let them know and encourage them to book in for a tour.
I hope you all have a tremendous weekend.
Ryan 😊
