Prep Learning Reflection

Our Preps have had another wonderful fortnight of learning! They deserve a big congratulations and a well earned rest over the long weekend after finishing their first full-time week of Prep!
Learning
We've continued our SoundsWrite program and have been learning and practising the sounds s, a, t, i and m (Unit 1) and have started with the Unit 2 sounds of n, o and p.
It would be a great idea to practice these over the long weekend with your children (especially if you've going away and have got a long drive). You could ask them to think of a word that has a particular sounds at the beginning, or play 'I Spy', but using the sounds instead of the letter name!
"I spy with my little eye, something that begins with the sound ssssss".
Students should have had their Decodable Reader books sent home. Please keep up your daily routines of reading with your children at home in the evening for them to practise blending the sounds to read the words!
Remember to keep these reader bags in the student's school bags so that they can be read in class as well, as so that they are ready to be swapped for new books each week.
In Numeracy, we've been learning to count up to 12 and with the help of 'Direction Duck' we've been "writing numbers perfectly" up to 3!
We've also been learning about time, shape and position. With a big focus on the vocabulary that is important with these areas. Such as straight and curved lines for shape, morning, afternoon and evening for time, and above, below, on top and underneath for position!
In SEL (Social Emotional Learning), we've been building our skills to connect and make friends and have continued to explore feelings. Particularly those that come with facing new challenges, learning new things and making new connections.
For our Unit of Work this Term “All Are Welcome Here”. We’ve been working on celebrating and acknowledging all of the similarities we share with one another, as well as the things that may differ between us all. And regardless of any of the difference we have with others, those we can see and those we can’t see, ‘we are all welcome here’ and we can all treat each other with kindness and respect.
Hallway Routines
In the mornings before the bell, and at the end of the day before the final bell, please don't use the classroom hallways.
Students and parents are to walk to the line up area via the paths around the main building.
Similarly during afterschool pickups, please wait for the students in the line up area. Your children will walk to this area with their teacher after the bell to be dropped to you.
Once you are with your child, you are more than welcome to come into the building for them to show you their work that is on display in the hallways!
This manages congestion and ensures the students can walk safely to their drop off points. It also supports the students to be focused on their classroom tasks before the end of the day, and supports educators in the preparations of their students arrival. If you need to speak with your child’s classroom teacher, they are available after the final school bell, or additional meetings can be organised by email via the front office.
Accidents Hapen!
Just a quick reminder to make sure that all students have a change of clothes (underwear, socks, shorts/pants, shirt) and a plastic bag in their school bags.
Harmony Day
Harmony Day is coming up! It's aways an amazing event in our school's calendar, be sure to secure your tickets (free) via the QR Codes around the school or via Compass.
Some extra dance practice at home can also help the students get the moves perfect before their performance! See 'Specialists' tab for the links!
You may even see the Preps practicing at the school assembly or during lunch times in the coming weeks.
Sunsmart!
Most of our Preps have been doing an amazing job of wearing their hats, which is fantastic! Coloured brim hats are available for purchase at the front office. They are compulsory during Term 1 and Term 4 during outside play! Please make sure your child has one to ensure they are safe from UV and get the opportunity to play freely in the yard during their play times!
Please also make sure that their names are clearly labelled in permanent marker on the hats to give them the best chance to be returned if they're left outside.
