Week 5 & 6 Updates
Students have been continuing to work hard preparing for Harmony Day! They’ve been practicing their performances, and been combining different classes to give students a chance to collaborate. It’s been a great way for students to work together as a team and experience what it’s like to be performers as a group.
A couple of classes have headed over to Sunshine College to rehearse with their senior bands. It's been an awesome collaboration, and I can't wait to see it all come together. I will continue to bring different groups over in the coming weeks.
Students from Grade 2-6 have been revisiting the treble and bass clef staves. They’ve been learning how to identify notes on the staves, which is an essential skill for reading sheet music. Using this knowledge, they’ve been labelling piano sheet music to prepare for learning how to play their pieces. It’s been wonderful to see how much progress they’re making as they build their music skills!

Interschool Sport
Basketball boys had their first loss while the girls team had a big win. Soccer had a inspirational draw. Tennis unfortunately had also had another loss, with cricket getting a clutch W.
We have a match on March 7th at St.Theresa's PS. Parents of students that are in a team are welcome to watch at away games too as long as they sign in at the office.
Cross Country trials are coming up for the 4-6 students and I hope all students are keeping up on their fitness. There will be a whole school beep test coming up in the next few weeks at lunch time, so be prepared!
This term, our STEM focus is Biological Sciences—the study of living things! Students across all year levels have been exploring the fascinating world of plants and animals. Check out some highlights from the past fortnight!
We have been busy classifying animals and conducting experiments to see what a plant needs to survive!
The Grade 3 and 4 excursion to the Melbourne Museum is on Friday 28th March. Please ensure permission and payment have been provided by Friday 21st March.
Preps
The prep students are bringing incredible energy and excitement to art class! They’ve been practicing their cutting skills, working together on a collaborative poster, and exploring different ways to spark creativity. They even experimented with blending paint! It’s been amazing to see their creativity grow each week. Look out for their class posters on display in their classrooms next week!
Students across all year levels have been actively developing their quilling skills in various ways, for most it is a new skill that they have really enjoyed learning about. They have embraced a growth mindset, understanding that mastering this technique takes time and practice. Students have put in great effort and made significant progress in building their skills.
They have been working hard to create a stunning mural for our Harmony Day block party. Each student’s artwork will be featured in the mural, making it a true community masterpiece. They are excited to share their creation with you at the celebration and hope you’ll take plenty of photos in front of it to remember this special day at Sunny Heights, where we come together to celebrate Harmony Day.
PARENTS & CARERS are you an artist in anyway?
I know many parents in our community are amazing artists and I would love the opportunity for you to get involved in art classes within the school and collaborate to develop some amazing authentic, inspiring art with the students.
You could be an artist and or have a specific skill in an area of art for example, a florist, a builder, a painter, a sewer...the list goes on and on.
Please contact me if you have time and would love to collaborate on an art project with myself and the students.
Thank you
Lauren
