Around the School

Prep M

Prep M has started our journey to becoming readers and writers. We have been learning our first sets of sounds. This involves learning how to make the sounds, write the connected letters, as well as learning how to spell and read words with these sounds. And we are only in our eighth week of Prep!

1WS

Year 1 have been talking about dinosaurs in science and for an art activity on Friday afternoon we drew some dinosaurs, coloured them with oil pastels and used some markers to outline our fabulous work.

4S

Over the past 2 weeks, 4S have been exploring how to use ICTs in Mathematics, specifically with Data. 4S accessed and trialled using a few programs on the iPads and computers such as QR Codes, Outlook (email), Microsoft Forms (Survey) and Padlet to collect survey data. 4S found Padlet and Microsoft Forms particularly interesting as they could see the survey results as they were In 'live' time.

4S also learned how to use the 'Notes' app on the iPads to create and print a table for the data collected from our Padlet survey. Lastly, 4S enjoyed using Splash Learn (a learning program on the iPads) to consolidate their knowledge on collecting, reading, analysing and graphing data.

4S will continue using these newly learned skills to complete their Mathematics assessment on data collection, graphing and analysis.

Another way, 4S has engaged with Padlet on the iPads is through a mind map to check for student understanding around the concepts learned throughout the term (to date) in English. This is particularly important to ensure students understand the requirements for and experience success during both the writing and presenting phases of their Book Review Assessment for Charlotte's Web.

5J

Kicking Off the Year with Creativity in 5J!

To start the year, 5J put their artistic skills (and their sense of humour!) to the test with a fun and challenging team-building activity: blind contour drawing. Each student randomly selected a classmate's name from a hat and created a portrait—but there was a twist! They had to draw without looking at their paper or lifting their pencil.

Laughter filled the room as students revealed their unique and sometimes wacky portraits. This activity wasn’t just about creating art; it also encouraged teamwork, observation, and a positive classroom environment. By focusing on the process rather than perfection, students developed their attention to detail while celebrating each other's differences.

5J had a blast exploring creativity in a whole new way, and their artwork proudly reflects their bold and playful approach. Well done, 5J!
