Grade 2 Community News

Dear Grade 2 Families,
We are continuing to have an amazing term 1. The students are becoming more and more confident with our new maths and literacy routines, and are working hard to achieve their learning goals.
English
In InitiaLit, we have been focusing on mastering a variety of spelling rules, such as the ‘bossy e’, long and short vowel sounds, and vowel teams. We have been continuing to work hard on our reading fluency - focusing on reading quickly, smoothly, accurately, and with expression.
Maths
In maths, the students have been continuing to build their confidence in 2 digit addition and subtraction, as well as building on their place value knowledge. We have also been exploring measurement, using informal units to measure such as cubes and markers. The students used their creativity with shapes, by seeing which compound shapes they could make using regular polygons.
Knowledge Building
The students are loving learning about Ancient India, and making connections to their own knowledge about India. So far we have learnt about important people, places, and gods in India. Next we will be learning about important celebrations in India.
Reminders:
- Hats! Another reminder that In term 1 students are expected to wear their hats in the yard. Please make sure they come to school with a Tarneit Rise hat every day and that this hat is clearly labelled with your child’s name and grade.
- Reading every night - Some students have now reached beyond 25 nights of reading! Keep it up!
- Arrive on time - School starts at 8:45am. Please ensure that your child is at their classroom by this time, ready for learning to begin.
