STEM News

Dear fellow scientists,

This week, Prep students are practicing sequencing by arranging the steps for dressing in winter attire. They cut and pasted clothing items like boots, coats, gloves, snow pants, hats, scarves in the correct order.

Grade 1 students are exploring solubility by predicting whether a given powder will dissolve in water. They recorded their predictions by circling their choices and safely used equipment during their STEM lesson. Have a listen to this song about the word dissolve: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kdc51ROgSq4

Grade 2 students are applying their planning skills to construct a water filter. They are testing its effectiveness in removing pollutants from water.

Grade 3 students are summarising information on various cooking techniques and their functions. Collaborating in groups, they researched different cooking methods and explained how a solar oven operates. Additionally, they practiced constructing a structure from cardboard using a template. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsXhfpE5NCY

Grade 4 students are developing a Keynote presentation with embedded links to illustrate the impact of drought on plants, animals, people, and the landscape. As part of the design project, they documented key facts in their booklets and collaborated in groups to incorporate this information into their presentation. Grade 5 students are assessing an investigation method to identify potential improvements. Through a leaf experiment, they explored how to formulate an investigable question by testing how three different materials- baking paper, felt, and regular paper- interact with water.

Grade 6 students are examining energy transfers and transformations involved in generating electrical energy from various sources. They explained how moving air and water can drive turbines to produce electricity and how solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy.
