Physical Education News

Dear Parents and Families,
We have been extremely busy over the last few weeks as students have transitioned to a variety of different sports. Overall, these transitions have been extremely successful, and we have been very impressed with the knowledge students already have of these different sports. Please continue to practise tennis, badminton and volleyball outside of school with your children as it helps them develop their understanding of these games.
Well done to Sierra in Grade 6 for coming 1st in shotput and 2nd in discus at the VIC little athletics state champs at the weekend!
Well done to Brother and Sister dynamite swimmers Vitaj and Akira for your efforts in the district and regional swimming carnivals! Huge congratulations for coming first, second and third place during the recent district swimming event!
As always, please continue to send us photos of your superstars of the week so we can celebrate your amazing sporting achievements.
Preps, Grade 1 and Grade 2
The Preps have continued to work on throwing technique. They are now mastering their skateboard stances, bunny ear grips and throwing over their shoulders to be able to increase accuracy during throwing lane sessions.
Grade 1s and 2s have completed their fundamental movement skills testing. This test looks at how students can transition between different movement skills such as hopping, skipping, catching and throwing. As well as testing students transitions, we have also been testing how quickly they can manoeuvre around the course.

Grade 3 and Grade 4
Grade 3’s have continued their net and wall unit, progressing to badminton. We’ve been specifically focusing on serving technique before moving onto being able to successfully compete in a rally.
Grade 4’s have moved onto tennis and have started the unit by revisiting essential racket control skills. We have then progressed into under arm serving and being able to control shots to enable successful rally’s to take place.
Grade 5 and Grade 6
The grade 5’s have continued with racket sports and have moved onto tennis. We have started to look at using space on the court to move opponents around and create scoring opportunities.
The grade 6’s have started with volleyball, which for many students will be their first time playing. We have begun with the basics of sets and digs before progressing onto some successful games.
