Year 3 - Middle Unit

We would like to congratulate all the Year 3s for their terrific effort in the Cross Country last Thursday. Making the change from running around the school oval to running around a 2km track at Gilbert Gordon oval is no mean feat! It was fantastic to see the determination and the persistence and now we wait with bated breath to see if anyone has made it through to the next round at Hanging Rock.

NAPLAN is well underway - the Year 3 students have completed two days and have their final assessment tomorrow. They have worked really hard and should be proud of their efforts.

As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we have been undertaking a Maths unit of work centred on money. Our two goals for the unit are that students represent money amounts in different ways using their knowledge of the place value system, and that they can calculate change, initially from $1 then $5, $10 and beyond. The aim is to use additive and multiplicative thinking to undertake these tasks. You could support your child’s learning at home by providing them opportunities to engage in real world scenarios involving money. Paying for an item or items with notes/coins and then calculating the change they should receive would be a great way to put their learning into practise.

Important reminders:

  • Please return your child’s Aqua Safe form at your earliest convenience if you have not done so. This will assist Kyneton Aquatic Centre with grouping the students according to their current skill level.

  • The Year 3 Adekate Camp is now up on Compass. You will find general camp information as well as the costs associated. Consent and the deposit are due by Tuesday 25th March.
