Carlsruhe Annexe /

Main Campus - Year 4

This term is flying by! We can’t believe it is Week 7 already!

We are so proud of all of the Year 4 students who showed great determination last Thursday for our House Cross Country. We are gearing up for the House Athletics Sports on the 25th of March.

In Literacy, we have been completing reading and writing activities investigating the arrival of the First Fleet to Australia in 1788. Putting ourselves in the shoes of both convicts and Indigenous Australians, has helped students understand Australian’s history. We have read some fantastic texts including Wilam, Beth and My Place.

In Maths, we have continued working on decimals, making connections to length and money. Making connections to everyday life has really helped students understand decimals! This week we made paper planes and then had a paper plane competition and measured our throws. Then we ordered them from shortest to longest throw, all while converting from centimetres to metres! Next week we are investigating money. Although we often use cards or pay for things online, it is still so important for students to play with Australian money and this is definitely one area where you can help at home!

Reminder: Students should be reading for at least 15 minutes each day and recording their progress in their home reader diary on their netbooks. Those using a school computer will have time in class to complete it.

We are hoping to start our Carlsruhe Activities program on Friday March 21st during the morning session. (9:30am – 10:30am)

We are on the lookout for any parents or grandparents that have certain skills and interests they would like to volunteer and run as an activity. If you are available and would love to support our program, please let your child's teacher know as soon as possible.

Drink bottles: please ensure your child brings a drink bottle to school each day. Our Carlsruhe campus does not have drinking fountains so it is essential that students have their own labelled drink bottle.
