Principal's Report

I am looking forward to the opportunity to catch up with many of our families at the Twilight Picnic and Holi Festival on the this Friday night, 21st March from 3pm - 7pm. The rumour that I have heard is that we have sold more coloured powder than ever before! There will be Indian Street Food, a BBQ and lots of colour. For more information please see the P&F section of the newsletter.
NAPLAN
I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for all the hard work our students and teachers put into preparing for and completing NAPLAN last week.
NAPLAN is an important assessment that helps to identify areas where students may need additional support or resources, and our teachers ensuring our students are well-prepared is essential to their success.
We look forward to sharing these results with families shortly.
Mountain to Melbourne
I am excited to share with our community that on Friday 28th March we have been invited to be part of a wonderful charity event. The Mountain to Melbourne 100km run will be coming to Blackburn Primary School and running a few laps of our new running track!
Emma-Rose Parsons is running over 100km passing through The Angliss, Maroondah, and Box Hill Hospitals, finishing at Eastland raising money to support pediatric departments - a cause close to many of our families hearts.
Emma-Rose Parsons is an inspiration to us all—her dedication, resilience, and generosity shows our students the power of determination and kindness. Donation link: https://mountaintomelbourne.raiselysite.com/
There will be more information about what's happening out on Compass and families are welcome to join Emma-Rose and some BPS staff at the finish line at Eastland Town Square supporting her to raise vital funds for children's care at Eastern Health. It'll be an afternoon of fun, connection and inspiration - including free face painting for the kids, DJs, live entertainment, prizes and giveaways from our sponsors.
Class of 1957
Look who came back for a school tour! It’s some of the members from our BPS graduating class of 1957. They all enjoyed a meandering school tour that took them from our Old School House instrumental rooms (which used to be the principals office!) to our very newest acquisition; the running track around the oval.
Miss Fusillo heard many an interesting tale about the running of the school from milk being dropped off every morning and the kids being allowed to go out to the local shops for fish and chips!
The crew loved hearing about how different school is in 2025, meeting our students and loved seeing BPS in all its glory.
Cross Country
We are looking forward to our Cross Country next week - another great event from Mrs P! Thanks to Merissa for her preparation for the event and to those who have offered and willingly supported the day. Such an amazing day and very proud of the way our kids encourage each other and run to their very best.
Cyber Safety Project
Thanks to the many parents who joined our Cyber Safety Webinar last night. For those were not able to join here is three key take-aways.
Show Them You Know!
Boost your child's confidence by showing them you’re informed. Explore the eSafety Commission’s reporting scheme (esafety.gov.au), Kids Helpline, and for teens, Youth Law Australia together.
Start the Chat
Aim for 100 short, balanced chats a year. Keep it positive while addressing risks. Use prompts like:
“Can you teach me more about…?”“What would you do if…?”, and “What skills do you want to learn next?”
Use Parental Controls Wisely
Tools like Apple Family Sharing, Google Family Link and Microsoft Family Safety help manage screen time and app access. Settings work best when paired with open conversations, trust and guidance.
The Resilience Project
Next week BPS is very excited to invite you all to our upcoming Resilience Project - Building Resilience at Home. Please see the Resilience Project page for details.
