Harmony Day at RNPS

Despite the gloomy weather, Harmony Day at RNPS was a vibrant and joyous celebration, bringing students, staff, and families together to embrace and share diverse cultures. The highlight of the day was the incredible participation from families who visited classrooms to showcase their traditions, stories, and foods. Students and staff were captivated by the rich cultural experiences, gaining a deeper appreciation for the backgrounds that make up our wonderful school community. Thank you to all who took the time to visit!

The school was a speckled sea of orange, with students proudly including orange socks, hair ribbons, face paint or clothing to represent inclusivity and respect. In addition to the splashes of bright orange, many students and staff dressed in beautiful cultural attire, adding to the colourful and festive atmosphere. Their outfits were a true reflection of pride in heritage and a commitment to celebrating diversity.

NAPLAN

Over the past fortnight, our Year 3 and Year 5 students participated in the NAPLAN assessments, demonstrating incredible effort and determination. It was wonderful to see each student approach the tests with a positive mindset, showing resilience and a commitment to doing their best. Throughout the process, they embodied our school values of being motivated and inspirational, tackling each challenge with focus and perseverance. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication.

Whilst we await the results we want to send a reminder to our students that NAPLAN does not measure everything that makes them all exceptional and unique.

The results won’t reflect that some of you have a passion for singing, a talent for drawing, or the ability to teach others how to use technology. They won’t represent the grace in your dancing or the confidence with which you speak to a crowd. They don’t show that your friends rely on you for support, that you dedicate time to sports, help your families, or play with your younger siblings and cousins. They are unaware of your kindness, thoughtfulness, and the effort you put in every single day—because these qualities cannot be measured by a test.

Your results will reflect how you performed on that particular day, but they won't capture everything about you. They won’t show how much you’ve grown, how hard you’ve worked to overcome challenges, or how much joy you bring to those around you.

Please know we are so proud of you all — congratulations for finishing!

Student Excellence Programs — Maths Olympiad and Maths Explorer

Our Numeracy extension students from Years 3-6 have eagerly jumped straight into Maths Olympiad and Maths Explorer, tackling challenging problems with enthusiasm and determination. It has been inspiring to see them approach each question with curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to think outside the box. These programs push students to develop their problem-solving skills, encouraging them to explore multiple strategies and deepen their mathematical understanding.

My Maths heart has been beating extra strong watching and listening to our students as they challenge one another, share their thinking, and celebrate their ‘ah-ha’ moments. Whether they’re debating different approaches, refining their reasoning, or working collaboratively to crack a tricky problem, their engagement and excitement are truly infectious. The resilience they show in the face of difficult questions highlights their growth mindset and commitment to learning.

Seeing our students so determined to reach the answer, even when faced with complex problems, is a testament to their hard work and perseverance. Maths Olympiad and Maths Explorer are not just about getting the right answer—they’re about developing confidence, fostering teamwork, and embracing the joy of mathematical discovery. We can’t wait to see how their skills and passion continue to grow throughout the year! Bring on the competitions starting next term!
