Sport & PE

With Kathryn and Dave

During yesterday's Prep - Year 3 PE sessions with Kathryn, students practiced their jumping and skipping skills. There was even time for some limbo!

We talked about how important our heart is... pumping blood around our bodies to help with digestion, brain function, growth and strength. Students then measured their heart rates after jumping like kangaroos (fast heart rate) and relaxing with belly breathing (slow heart beat rate). Just like our hearts, we follow a rhythm when skipping.

The Year 4-6 PE classes continue to focus on Indigenous games. This week we played ball games: buroinjin, chiba, tarnambai and borna jokee. It was terrific to see many of the students take on leadership roles and teach the games to their peers.

Year 3-6 Snowsports Program - Downhill

Wednesday was a pretty perfect day on the mountain. After poor visibility the week before, this week students experienced gentle flurries of snow throughout the day making for wonderful ski conditions.

  • Steph and Mary's group continued to practice their balance and snow plough and began to work on their turns. After mastering Mousetrap, they had their first adventure down Wombat's Ramble with their instructor Quinny to end the day.
  • Dave, Erin and Jess's group had their first experience of Wombats and Drover's Dream while building their turning skills with their instructor Adam.
  • Our two intermediate groups with Chris and Mark, and Anna, Anthony and Lisa skied Drovers and Towers.
  • Our advanced group skied Ruined Castle, Helipad, Fox Trail, Rapunzel, Drover's and Scott's with Anna, Heath and Duanne.

Thank you to all of those parent helpers for making the day possible and also Jessie who has been in Cloud 9 in case any students needed assistance. She hasn't had any visitors on either of our ski days so far which means all of our skiers have been positive, safe and resilient and skied for the whole day! Well done everyone!
