The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is an annual Department of Education survey that captures students’ attitudes to and experiences at government schools. Data collected includes how students feel in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general.
Our students completed this survey in June, and the preliminary results have now been released.
An impressive 87% of our student cohort participated, providing a highly representative and meaningful sample. We are incredibly proud of the strategic work undertaken to achieve these outcomes, and this year's positive AtoSS endorsement data clearly indicates that our efforts have had a positive impact on our students.

Sense of connectedness: The extent to which students feel they belong and enjoy attending school.
Teacher concern: The extent to which teachers are empathic to students.
Student voice and agency: The extent to which students perceive they are heard and have a say at their school.
Self-regulation and goal setting: The extent to which students prepare themselves for learning.
BHHS Anti-racism Strategy - tracking well so far!
Positive endorsement increased across three of our AtoSS anti-racism strategy goals in 2026. This is a pleasing result and an early indicator that anti-racism awareness throughout our school is having a positive impact on our students.

We are pleased to share an exciting garden project initiated by our 2025 Year 11 Vocational Major students. Their vision was to transform two existing garden beds at the front entrance into vibrant and welcoming spaces featuring:
increased biodiversity, including a variety of plant species and bee hotels
native and indigenous plants
seating areas
contrasting plant colours and textures
This project was driven by the BHHS Sustainability Action Plan, specifically Goal 4: increasing biodiversity and the inclusion of native and indigenous plants throughout the school grounds.
To bring their vision to life, students developed and submitted a range of design concepts. We then partnered with RB Landscapes to further refine these ideas and create a professional design for the project.
The completed garden beds will enhance the entrance to our school while creating an attractive, biodiverse habitat that supports local flora and fauna. This project is a wonderful example of student leadership and sustainability in action.
We are hopeful to have this project completed within the next 2-3 months. Stay tuned!
