This is a huge term for the Library as we gear up for our annual Book Week celebrations.
The theme for Book Week 2026 is Symphony of Stories and to commemorate this, we are running a weekly, 50-word writing competition every week.
Each week we post a theme and students send in their stories, earning house points and celebrating their love of writing and storytelling. But this in only the start of what we have planned.

Morris Gleitzman
Is one of Australia’s most successful and experienced children’s authors. We have been on a wait list for two years and cannot wait until he comes in to speak with our students about his book writing process and his well-known series, Once and the main characters Felix and Zelda. Students from across the school were able to sign up to this wonderful opportunity and we are thrilled to offer this.

Ange Crawford
This is the second time that Ange will visit us and we are so excited that she is returning to BHHS. Ange’s book, How to Be Normal, was longlisted by the Children’ Book Council of Australia in 2026 and the last time she came in, she was so generous with her time and knowledge. Ange is a queer, autistic writer, editor and PhD candidate and will be running a creative writing workshop on Wednesday 26 August. Students can sign up to attend in the Library.
After running two, really successful events in Term 2, we are gearing up for four more days of creative chats, intense writing, artistic designs, laughter and pizza. The event that first ran in BHHS 6 years ago has exploded this year with over 420 students, from every year level, taking part. The event supports the Kids Cancer Project and sees students work in teams of between 5 to 10 to write, illustrate and publish a book in 12 hours.
On the last day of Term 2, we hosted our first House Chess Tournament. Students who signed up not only earned house points, developed their chess skills and had fun but they also had the opportunity to be crowned ‘house chess champions’. We congratulate the students who competed on the day and look forward to hosting another tournament on the last day of Term 3. Sign up is in the Library.

BHHS is hosting the first interschool puzzle competition on Tuesday 1st September. This year we are entering three teams with one team defending their title as State Puzzle Champions. The event that will see students from different schools across the state of Victoria, race against other qualifying schools in order to be crowned, Victorian Puzzle Champions.
Puzzle Club is an inclusive club where students from all ages and abilities can come together and develop their skills in teamwork, socialising, confidence building, communication and problem-solving skills. It runs every Monday at lunchtime in the Library.
