Mrs Andrew - Head of Boarding
It has been lovely to welcome our boarders back to the Boarding House for the start of Term 3. We hope everyone had a relaxing break and is feeling refreshed and ready for another busy term ahead.
A highlight of our first week back was the official induction of our new Boarding Prefects, Zara Gill and Eve Leelathayphawan, who were inducted during Friday’s School Assembly. Zara and Eve will now take on their roles as Head Boarder and Deputy Head Boarder for the next 12 months, working alongside our Boarding Senior Leaders and supporting the boarding community.
We would also like to thank our outgoing Prefects, Lilli Bartlett and Jackie Howe, for the time, care and commitment they have given to the Boarding House over the past year. They have both made a wonderful contribution to our community, and we are very grateful for the leadership and support they have provided.
Zara and Eve are very lucky to have Lilli continuing to live in the Boarding House for another term. Her experience and knowledge of the role will be invaluable as they settle into their new positions, and we know she will be there to answer questions, offer advice and provide support along the way.
We also welcomed our two new GAP students, Chloe St Clair from Hawaii and Leah Downard from Canada, at the start of Term 3. Both have fitted quickly into Kambala life, and we are very happy to have them here. It has been lovely to hear them share their experiences from home while also beginning their own new adventure here in Australia.
We look forward to seeing Zara and Eve grow into their new roles over the next 12 months and to having Chloe and Leah as part of our Boarding House community this year.
Come Alive! Under the Big Top
Our recent Rec outing took the Kambala Boarders to the spectacular ‘Come Alive!’ show at the Entertainment Quarter in Moore Park. Under the Big Top, the girls were immersed in a dazzling world of bright lights, incredible talent, and nonstop entertainment. Based on the well-known movie ‘The Greatest Showman’ this circus spectacular saw the girls enjoy an adapted modern-day storyline with all the favourite songs from the original film.
From the moment the girls entered the Big Top they were wowed by the magic of the performance! The audience was captivated by the energetic singing and dancing, breathtaking acrobatics, daring trapeze performances, and awe-inspiring circus acts. The performers amazed the girls with their skill, strength, and creativity, leaving everyone on the edge of their seats throughout the show.
The giant-sized theatre Popcorn and show treats also made for an excellent way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The outing provided a wonderful opportunity for the girls to enjoy a unique live theatre experience together, sharing plenty of laughs, excitement, and moments of wonder. It was a fantastic afternoon of fun and entertainment, and a memorable experience that will be talked about for weeks to come.

Our new GAP student, Chloe
Where are you from, and what’s something special about your hometown?
I’m from Oahu, Hawai’i. It's a beautiful island with a very close-knit community that places a strong emphasis on protecting the environment. Growing up there gave me a deep appreciation for nature and the unique culture that makes Hawai'i so special.
What made you decide to take a gap year in Australia?
I've always loved Australia ever since the first time I visited. When I was offered this opportunity, I was fortunate enough to defer my university entry so I could take it. I really wanted the chance to experience what it was really like to live here, immerse myself in Australian culture, and gain a deeper understanding of the country's lifestyle, values, and social norms.
What did you study in school and what do you hope to study in the future?
I did the IB programme at my school and was particularly interested in biology and chemistry. Those subjects inspired my passion for biochemistry, which I plan to study at Boston University next year.
Do you have any hobbies or sports you enjoy?
I played volleyball throughout high school and have always enjoyed cross country and continue to run in my spare time. I always have a book on the go and love going for hikes.
What has surprised you the most about Australian School life?
The food is spectacular! And everyone is so laid back and super friendly.
What’s a fun fact about you most people don’t know?
I have my advanced scuba certification, which I got in 11th grade, and I love to scuba dive with every chance I get.
What’s something you’d like to learn or try while you're here in Australia?
I was really excited to try Australian coffee as well as experience lots of different workout classes.
