FROM THE CLASSROOM  

During Investigations, students explored where wool comes from. We use products made from animals in our everyday lives. The children enjoyed learning about the journey from sheep to garment and were excited to identify clothing and other items made from wool. 

In Talk for Writing, students continued to orally innovate our information text by changing the animal and facts from our model text. They enthusiastically shared ideas about different farm animals and confidently used their growing knowledge to create new information texts. It has been fantastic to see students recalling key facts and applying them to their own writing. 

In Reading, students explored new vocabulary and practised identifying the main idea of a text. They also used picture clues to make inferences about what was happening and asked and answered questions to deepen their understanding of the stories we read together. 

In Phonics, students worked hard reading, writing and spelling CCVCC words while continuing to build automatic recognition of our Stage 5 Heart Words. It has been wonderful to see their confidence growing as they apply these skills during reading and writing activities. 

In Mathematics, students investigated the language of length by comparing everyday objects. Using words such as 'longer, shorter, taller, wider and higher', they directly compared pairs of objects and explained their thinking using mathematical language. 

Our Wellbeing learning focused on recognising the people who support us, knowing when and how to ask for help, and using strategies from our "toolbox" to manage our emotions. The children have shown great confidence in discussing trusted adults and practising positive ways to regulate their feelings.

• Read and spell multisyllabic words.  
• Read and spell words with the -ed ending.  

MATHS   

We are learning to:

• Use appropriate language to describe the measurement of attributes of mass. (for example, using words like ‘heavy’ and ‘light').
• Directly compare pairs of everyday objects to say which is heavier/lighter.  

WELLBEING   

We are learning to:

• Speak kindly and use my manners with everyone.  
• Ask for help when I need it.  
• Help others when they need it. 

READING   

We are learning to:

• Explore new vocabulary.   
• Identify the main idea in a text and make connections.    
• Use the clues in the pictures to infer what is happening.    
• Ask and answer questions about a text.    

WRITING   

We are learning to:

• Invent, tell and write a simple three step narrative using time connectives.   
• Write an information report about a farm animal.  

REMINDERS  

Reader Bags & Home Reading Journals   

A reminder to make sure your child is bringing their reader bag to school each day. Inside should be a small reader book, take home journal, and M100 Word pouch. Students will be able to take a new reader book each day if the previous one has been returned. It has been exciting to see students already having books written in their journals, and we look forward to celebrating their nightly reading in the classroom!   

Digital Technology Forms   

Please ensure that each section is filled out with your child, and that the form is brought back to school as soon as possible. If you need a replacement form, please contact your child’s teacher. We have begun using iPads THIS WEEK.   

Compass Permissions   

There are still a few of these missing. Please ensure to follow the permission prompts on Compass. This includes walking permission, permission to have your child’s photo taken and published in the newsletter or on social media. If you need assistance with this, please contact your child’s teacher.
