Understanding Racism, Our Commitment, and the Role of the Anti-Racism Contact Officers (ARCO)

Dear Families,

At Carlingford West Public School, we are committed to creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for every student. Racism—whether through words, actions, or attitudes—is not tolerated in our school community. Racism includes unfair treatment or discrimination based on race, ethnicity, culture, language, religion, or background, and it can have serious impacts on students’ wellbeing and success.

To actively support this commitment, our school has two Anti-Racism Contact Officers (ARCO) who work closely with the principal, teachers, students, and families to implement the NSW Department of Education’s Anti-Racism Policy. The ARCO is a trusted point of contact for anyone who experiences or witnesses racism, providing impartial support and clear guidance on how to report and address concerns.

Our ARCOs help ensure that all reports of racism are taken seriously, managed transparently, and resolved in a fair way. Beyond individual cases, the ARCOs play a key role in promoting anti-racism education across the school—delivering training and resources that build understanding, respect, and a culture where every student feels valued and included.

We encourage you to talk with your children about the importance of respect and kindness for all people. By working together—students, families, staff, and our ARCOs—we can create a school community free from racism, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and belong.
