Relieving Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Carers and Students,
I am pleased to share with our parent community that I will be continuing as Relieving Principal of Carlingford West Public School for the remainder of 2026.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead the school and support our students, staff, and families. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to discuss anything related to your child’s education or school life, please feel free to contact me. I am here to assist and look forward to working together to ensure the best outcomes for our school community.

Congratulations to all students who sat the Selective High School exams this year!
Carlingford West Public School is proud to share that 46 Year 6 students received an offer to enrol in an NSW Selective High School, and many more students have successfully been placed on a reserve list. We are crossing our fingers and toes that some of these students will be offered a place for 2027.
We recognise the dedication and effort required to prepare for and complete this challenging process—it is certainly not for the faint-hearted.
Whether you achieved your goal or simply gained valuable experience, your perseverance and commitment are commendable. We are proud of your hard work and encourage you to continue striving for your personal best.
School excellence plan
Our school excellence plan (SEP) is a working document that shows our priorities in learning, teaching and leading. It explains our focus areas for improvement and how we plan to get there. We write our SEP with help from our school community, so it reflects our shared priorities.
For the next 4 years, Carlingford West will be focused on:
Student growth and attainment - We aim to maintain and extend high levels of student growth and achievement in reading and numeracy across K–6 by embedding evidence-based practices, high expectations and explicit teaching. We will utilise data-driven approaches and foster a culture of continuous improvement in reading and numeracy for every learner.
Excellence in teaching - To foster continuous teacher improvement, promote excellence in teaching practices, and enhance professional learning opportunities. By prioritising targeted professional development, collaborative teaching strategies, and reflective practices, we aim to build a high-quality teaching workforce that effectively supports student learning outcomes and contributes to a positive, innovative, and inclusive school culture. This plan is committed to empowering educators to develop their skills, share best practices, and engage in ongoing learning to achieve sustained excellence in education.
- Strengthening community partnerships through inclusivity - Our school is committed to fostering a culture that values diversity through strengthened community engagement. We strive to create an inclusive environment that embraces diverse family voices in decision-making and school life. We aim to empower students to actively participate in leadership opportunities, ensuring their voices meaningfully shape our school community.
Splitting classes
At our school, the leadership team works diligently to ensure that whenever a teacher is unwell or unable to attend, there is a teacher or relief staff member in front of every class. However, on some days, the number of staff absences may exceed our available relief teachers.
In these instances, we may need to split a class between other classes and assign students meaningful learning tasks for the day. While this is not ideal, we do our best to minimise disruption and maintain a safe and productive learning environment.
We appreciate your understanding and support when these situations arise.
Safety concerns at local 7 Eleven
A member of the public has recently informed the school about a safety concern involving some of our primary students at the 7-Eleven petrol station on Pennant Hills Road, Carlingford.
After school, groups of students have been gathering in front of the shop, an area where vehicles frequently enter, exit, and move around the petrol pumps.
It was observed that some students were crossing the petrol station exit while distracted by snacks and conversations, without fully checking for approaching vehicles. Given the constant movement of cars, there is a potential risk for accidents.
We ask parents and carers to remind their children to stay alert and use safe crossing points after school. We appreciate your support in ensuring the safety of all our students.
Arrive by bell time
We would like to remind all parents and carers of the importance of students arriving at school each day and on time. As the graphic below illustrates, missing one day every 2 weeks adds up to missing 4 weeks of learning over a school year. Missing one day per week equates to missing 8 weeks of learning across a year.
In addition, being ready to learn from the bell time at 9:25am ensures that students gain the most from their lessons and feel settled and prepared for the day ahead.
Consistent attendance and punctuality support students’ success and help create a positive and calm start to the school day. Thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring your child is at school and ready to learn by 9:25am.
Book Week
This week, we are excited to celebrate Book Week 2026, embracing the theme ‘Symphony of Stories.’
This special week invites us all to explore the rich, diverse world of children's literature and discover the unique stories that come together like instruments in a symphony, creating a harmonious and vibrant literary experience.
Ready to enrol?
As Carlingford West Public School begins planning for our 2027 school organisation, we encourage families to enrol their child or children as soon as possible. Early enrolments help us ensure that classes, staffing, and resources are appropriately organised to best support every student.
If you have a child starting school in 2027, or know a family in our community who does, please email our school office at carlingfow-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au and attention the email to Mrs Adams, our Enrolment Officer. We look forward to welcoming new students and families to our school next year.
Updated criteria for non-local enrolment NSW public schools have specific local enrolment areas. The designated intake areas are determined by the department. These schools ensure that there are enough places for students who reside in their local enrolment area.
You may apply to enrol your child outside your designated area as a ‘non-local enrolment’, if places are available. Carlingford West Public School currently has non-local enrolment availability as indicated on the School Finder website.
