Have Your Say – Parent/Carer Opinion Survey

Our Parent/Carer Opinion Survey is open, and we would love to hear from as many of our families as possible.

The survey is an important opportunity to tell us what we are doing well and where we can continue to improve. You can access the Parent/Carer Opinion Survey through the Star Menu in Compass, where you will also find the school PIN (795649) needed to complete the survey or via the below link.

So far, 22 families have completed the survey – but our goal is 300! Every response helps us build a clearer picture of the experiences of our students and families. If you haven't completed it yet, please take the time to have your say.

Following Up on Feedback

It was great to see so many students and families at our recent Parent Teacher Conferences. Alongside the conversations at these interviews, families now also have access to the latest Progress Reports through Compass. Together, these provide valuable feedback about how students are progressing and where there are opportunities for improvement.

Now is the time for students to act on this feedback. Families are encouraged to review the Progress Report together and revisit the key messages from Parent Teacher Conferences. Ask: 

• What is going well? 
• What needs to improve? 
• What is one specific action you can take now?

This might mean improving a study routine, completing outstanding work, being better prepared for class, seeking extra help from a teacher, or setting a clear goal for the remainder of the term. The value of feedback comes from what we do with it.

Time for an Equipment Check

As we move further into the term, it is also a good time for students to check their equipment and restock the essentials.

Pens disappear, exercise books fill up and folders can become a little worse for wear. Students should make sure they have the basic equipment they need for every class, including pens, pencils, rulers, exercise books and any subject-specific materials.

Being properly equipped is a small but important part of being ready to learn. A quick check of the school bag this week can make a big difference to being prepared and ready for every class, every day.

Year 12 Vocation Major Market Day 2026

Once again, our Year 12 VCE VM cohort have demonstrated their collaborative skills and have run a hugely successful Market Day for the rest of the Mornington Secondary College community, raising funds for our nominated 2026 charity, Speak & Share!

While there will be more reports in next week's newsletter about the day itself, we wanted to publicly acknowledge the work of some staff who have facilitated this project. Our Personal Development teachers, Ms Jo Dixon and Ms Kirsty Hamson, have juggled being facilitators, support people, compliance officers, chefs, OH&S reps, event managers, crisis management consultants, accounts receivable and many other roles so that our students could grow.

I’d also like to thank Rebecca Slater, Kate Wilson, Kellie Nottle, Amelia and Shine (our AFL trainees) and many other staff (teachers and ES) who have volunteered their time and effort to support this event.

Congratulations to Robyn White

We are pleased to congratulate Robyn White on her appointment as Business Manager of Mornington Secondary College.

Robyn brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, along with a strong understanding of our College and community. We look forward to her continuing to make an important contribution to Mornington Secondary College in her new role.

Artist of the Month

Senior School - August Artist of the Month

Made from Polymer clay and hand painted in acrylic paint. I really like the game "Limbus Company' and decided to make this as my creative artwork for VET.  - Lilliana Cananzi, Year 10 VET

Middle School - August Artist of the Month

My artwork is an expressive charcoal still life. I used loose lines, strong marks and areas of light and dark to make the objects feel more expressive rather than completely realistic. I enjoyed experimenting with charcoal and seeing how different marks could change the mood of the drawing. - Beren Adiguzel, Year 9

Aerobics Nationals

This Sunday, the 30th of August, eight Mornington Secondary College students will be competing in the 2026 Aerobics National Championships on the Sunshine Coast. 

Our senior team, Nova, and duo, Dynamite, have worked incredibly hard over the past three months, dedicating hours before and after school to their Nationals preparation.

We’re anticipating an extremely competitive competition, with 2026 marking the biggest Nationals that TFT has ever hosted, with more than 2500 competitors across the weekend! We are already so proud of our students for making it this far and for having the opportunity to represent MSC on the national stage.

This year, every one of our students has a special milestone to celebrate! 

• For Paula, Charlotte, Phoebe, Lulu and Tilly, it will be their first time taking to the National stage. 
• Makena and Mya will be celebrating their first National appearance as a duo.
• Anna will take to the National stage one final time before graduating later this year. 

With so many exciting milestones, there are certainly a few nerves building!

Thank you to everyone for your continued support of our students, particularly throughout our fundraising efforts and competitions this year. We can’t wait to see our students take the stage and represent MSC with pride!

Year 7 Wildlife Encounters Incursion 

Our Year 7 students recently got up close with some fascinating Australian wildlife during the Wildlife Encounters incursion. Linking directly to their Science curriculum, students explored Australian ecosystems, food chains and food webs, learning how different animals interact and depend on one another to survive.

The highlight was meeting and touching live animals while discovering the important role each plays within an ecosystem.

Year 10 Holocaust Museum and Classic Cinemas

On Wednesday 26th, the Year 10 and Wellbeing Team accompanied a group of students to the Holocaust Museum in Elsternwick for an educational program that built upon their learning in Year 10 Humanities to further explore the true impact of the Holocaust at an individual level.

Students were guided by experts through the museum and its archives exploring the struggles of the Jewish population in Europe through the 1930s-40s and the importance of everyday qualities such as bravery, hope and kindness that allowed some to evade capture and survive.

Students were also privileged to hear from a 100-year-old survivor, Sarah Saaroni OAM, learning not only her story, but having the opportunity to ask some incredible questions. Her message to the students to “live and let live”, and to not allow hatred into their lives is something we hope they will live by after this experience, and her wise words that “education is the one thing no one can take from you” was poignant and inspiring.

Following this, students walked to Classic Cinemas for a viewing of the film One Life about the work of Sir Nicholas Winton who’s efforts saved and relocated over 600 children, many of whom were Jewish out of Prague at the time when the Holocaust was escalating alongside the outbreak of WWII. The film’s message of bravery, hope and kindness resonated with our students, particularly after their experiences at the museum.

We hope that our students will take the stories they have heard today and spread them to so many more.

Mt Eliza Fire Brigade Torchlight Parade

MSC’s Drum and Flag Corps were honoured to be invited to take part in the Mt Eliza Fire Brigade’s 90th Anniversary Torchlight Procession on Friday 21 August.

Marching alongside brigades from across the Mornington Peninsula, our students proudly represented MSC in this special celebration of community, service and tradition. It was a wonderful honour to be included in such a significant local occasion.

Year 9 Fundraiser BBQ: Speak & Share

On the 25th of August, the Year 9 Captains and helpers conducted a barbeque for our school fundraiser, Speak & Share; a youth mental health resource that breaks down stigmas and normalise open conversations about mental health. 

The Year 9 Captains (Paula, Charlotte, Max, Elise and Charli), alongside a few helpers (Fern, Archer and Bella) organised the ingredients and event. We set up the barbeque, prepared the food, and served to our fellow students. 

We could not have done this fundraiser without our kind donators, who provided the bread and sausages. We would like to thank Lindens Fresh for giving us 150 sausages and Maddy for the bread. Overall, the fundraiser was a success as everyone who bought a sausage left with a smile on their face!

Year 7 and 8 World Cup Soccer

The annual Year 7 and 8 Lunchtime Futsal Competition is back this term! The competition is heating up, with plenty of friendly rivalry on display. The crowd support has also been in full swing, making it a lunchtime highlight for our Year 7 and 8 students.

Basketball Squad Update

Basketball squad has been in full swing in recent weeks as students prepare for interschool sport. Students are showing great commitment and enthusiasm at squad training. Under the guidance of Coach Chris, students have been working hard, following instructions and making the most of the coaching and court access available to them.

We encourage all students, boys and girls, who are interested in basketball to come along and get involved. Whether you are an experienced player or simply looking to develop your skills, squad training provides a great opportunity to receive quality coaching, access the courts and be part of our basketball program.

Basketball Squad runs on school days: Tuesday and Thursday 7:30am -8:30am

Congratulations to our MSC students who have been recognised for their outstanding performances in local football, taking home Leading Goal Kicker and Best & Fairest awards. An excellent achievement and a fantastic reflection of their dedication both on and off the field.

Footy Tipping

What a finish to this year’s Footy Tipping Competition!

After 25 rounds, Harry Ledlin has taken out the title with 147 points, finishing just one point ahead of Alex Classon on 146. The two students were locked together heading into the final stages of the season, and Harry managed to find the extra tip needed to claim the win.

Hannah Cooper finished an excellent equal third on 142 points, alongside staff member Mr Williams. Allison Betts was close behind on 141, while Emma Bassett and Fletcher Cook also finished strongly on 141.

It was a fantastic contest all season, with students and staff trading places at the top of the leader board and the result remaining in doubt until the very end.

Congratulations to Harry Ledlin, our 2026 Footy Tipping Champion, and well done to everyone who took part.
