Confidence and Coping

Building confidence and coping skills are vital for students to thrive in school. Confident students are more willing to take on challenges, learn from mistakes, and try new things—key ingredients for effective learning and personal growth. Coping skills help students manage stress, stay calm, and bounce back when things don’t go as planned.

Students have been discovering what real confidence looks like and creating their own coping toolkits. Activities have included:

  • the Confidence Ladder: setting small, achievable goals;
  • breathing and calming techniques; and
  • the Catastrophe Meter: helping students evaluate problems and put them into perspective, so they're less likely to feel overwhelmed.

You can support your child by:

  • asking about their favourite ways to handle tough moments;
  • encouraging them to try something they’ve been nervous about; and
  • modelling positive coping strategies at home.
