Beginning Of Term 2 :
National Careers Week
(11–17 May) – I am becoming
During National Careers Week (11–17 May), South Oakleigh College will be celebrating and exploring the theme “I am becoming”, encouraging students to reflect on their strengths, interests, and the many possible futures they are working towards.
This week provides an important opportunity for students to begin shaping their sense of identity, aspirations, and career pathways, recognising that who they are today is part of who they are becoming.
At South Oakleigh College, we value the strong partnership between home and school in supporting students through this journey. Families play a key role in helping young people build confidence and make thoughtful decisions about their future.
Parents and carers are encouraged to support this focus by:
- Engaging in open conversations about your child’s interests, goals, and aspirations
- Exploring how school subjects link to future study and career pathways
- Attending university, TAFE, and training open days together where possible
- Encouraging exploration of work experience, volunteering, or part-time work opportunities
- Reinforcing the importance of developing transferable skills such as communication, resilience, and teamwork
Even small, regular conversations at home can help students feel supported as they begin to shape their future pathways.
We thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students at South Oakleigh College as they reflect on “I am becoming” and take meaningful steps towards their future.
