Beginning Of Term 2 :
Science Department
It has been an excellent start to Term 2 in Science at South Oakleigh College, with students demonstrating strong engagement and a positive work ethic in their classes. This term is a critical period for consolidating key knowledge and building the skills needed for upcoming assessments and exams. We encourage all students to maintain this momentum and remain consistent in their efforts, as this will play a significant role in supporting both their academic progress and overall success.
This term, we are excited to be launching two new STEM clubs. Robotics Club will run every Wednesday in the DLC. In this club, students will learn about programming and robotics as they design and build robots to compete in RoboCup Junior Australia. We have already seen a huge amount of interest, and while a few robotics kits are still available, we encourage students to get in touch as soon as possible to avoid missing out.
Science Club will run every Friday in the DLC. This term, students will take part in fun and engaging practical activities that go beyond what is typically covered in regular lessons. Our first session featured a rat dissection, which was very well attended, with students enthusiastically exploring mammalian anatomy and using it as a model to better understand the human body. Keep an eye out for advertisements for upcoming sessions, or send Mr Presland a message to be added to the team.
Our VCE Science courses are now well underway, and Term 2 is the most important period for setting students up for success. It is essential that students remain focused and work hard in every lesson, as well as commit to consistent study at home each night. To achieve strong results, students should be completing as many exam-style questions as possible on all content covered so far, including topics from early last term. Regular revision and continued practice are key to building understanding and retention at this level. Teachers are always available to support students, and we strongly encourage students to seek help whenever they need it.
