Year 9 Food Studies
The Year 9 Food Studies students have been actively engaged in their Brownie Design Brief CAT, applying creativity and practical skills to develop a product that meets a specific purpose.
As part of the design brief, students were challenged to respond to a real-world scenario by creating, styling, and photographing a brownie suitable for a restaurant setting. The final image was intended to serve both as a reference for consistent plating among the chefs at the restaurant and as part of a marketing campaign for use in magazines and social media.
Throughout the unit, students explored a range of food styling and photography techniques, carefully considering how presentation can enhance the appeal of a dish. They generated and justified their design ideas, ensuring their concepts aligned with the brief and target audience.
During the production phase, students prepared their brownies and selected garnishes to match their chosen themes. The results were diverse and imaginative, with creations ranging from birthday-themed brownies to campfire-inspired s’mores designs.
To conclude the task, students evaluated their products by tasting and assessing them using a range of evaluation scales, reflecting on both the success of their final product and how effectively they met the design brief.

Year 10 Food Studies Excursion – Queen Victoria Market & William Angliss Institute
This term, our Year 10 Food Studies students took part in an excursion exploring some of Melbourne's exciting and abundant food scene. As part of their Menu Planning unit, students visited the Queen Victoria Market and were guided on a Market Discovery Tour. This experience allowed them to explore a wide variety of fresh, seasonal ingredients and gain insight into how food is sourced and presented in a real-world setting. Students also spent time exploring the market’s food truck area, gathering ideas and inspiration for their upcoming assessment, where they will design their own food truck meal.
The day concluded with a visit to William Angliss Institute, where students toured the facilities and learned about future study pathways in areas such as food, hospitality, events, and tourism.
