Principal's Press

Dear Parents,
Psalm 4 is a song and a prayer written by King David where David calls out to God because he is feeling distressed and pressured. It’s the kind of prayer any of us could pray on a busy weeknight when the 'to do' list is long, the kids are arguing, and you’re feeling flat. David’s situation — being betrayed and hunted by his own son — is far more extreme than our everyday challenges (I hope), yet the despair he expresses can sometimes be all too real.
What stands out to me in this psalm is that David names the true source of his distress. “How long will you love delusions and seek false gods?” It was a confronting question for Israel as they drifted from God, but it still challenges us today. My sons (and I) have recently been enjoying listening to Josiah Queen’s song, Dusty Bibles, in the car and his lyrics are striking in calling out a similar issue:
With dust on our Bibles, brand-new iPhones
No wonder why we feel this way
We walk with our eyes closed, blind leading blind folks
And I'm done with those idols and dusty Bibles
I miss the way things used to be
In Psalm 4, David urges his people to pause: “Tremble and do not sin… search your hearts and be silent.” He invites us to “trust in the Lord” and be faithful to Him. Josiah Queen’s song encourages us to dust off our bibles and stop being complacent. Both songs draw on the striking contrast of worry and distress when our eyes are fixed on the world, but peace and rest that God gives us when we trust in Him.
This week as I drive to and from school each day (listening to Dusty Bibles) I am praying that our students and your families will look to the Lord, trust His word and His promises, and enjoy the peace He freely gives.

Thank you for your feedback
Over the last week I have read through all the feedback from parents, students and staff from our recent surveys – there was lots! I am thankful for the feedback, for the encouragement of the importance of the work of a school, and the challenge to keep on improving because it matters! Thank you for your partnership as we work together to make this College a great place for students. Work has now started on preparing a Strategic Plan for the College and I look forward to providing you with updates on its progress.
