For neurodivergent young people, the online world can be a great place to learn, create and connect with others – but it can also bring challenges. Use these tips to help you shape your online experience in ways that feel safe, supportive and empowering.

In short:

  • There’s no one ‘right’ way of thinking or being and everyone deserves to have positive online experiences.
  • Being neurodivergent brings both strengths and challenges that can affect you in good and bad ways online.
  • Understanding how your unique traits can play out in online spaces can help you take steps to improve your safety and confidence.
  • This includes learning how to spot ‘red flags’, building good digital habits, using safety tools and having a plan if things get tricky.
  • If things do go wrong, it's not your fault and you don’t have to handle it on your own. Reach out to someone you trust, or visit eSafety’sI need helppage for support.

Reset for Term 2

(eSafetyCommissioner)

A new school term is a great opportunity to reset family tech habits — starting with how your family shares personal information, photos and videos online.

Children don’t always understand how small details shared online — like their school, location, or images — can travel further than intended or be used in ways they didn’t expect. Helping them build strong privacy habits early supports their safety now and into the future.   By involving children in everyday privacy decisions, families can model consent and help children feel confident, respected and in control of their online identity — while building trust around technology use.

We have practical, age-appropriate advice to help your family protect their privacy online.
